Scope of Position
The Patient Care Associate (PCA) functions as an integral member of a team of care providers in a Patient Care unit, reflect a culture of cooperation, enthusiasm, and mutual respect. The Patient Care Associate (PCA) provides Patient Care and supportive services that are directed towards achievement of Patient Care outcomes. They will assist technical staff, clerical staff, physicians, patients and visitors within the Department of Radiology. The PCA maximizes the patient's involvement in his/her own plan of care, improving services levels, reducing the length of procedures and decreasing costs. Patients and their families will experience the benefits of patient focused care through the integrated skills of all care team members. The Wexner Medical Center at The Ohio State University is committed to enhancing the quality of care our patients receive.
Position Summary
The PCA is responsible for providing a variety of direct and indirect Patient Care activities as supervised and directed by the technologist, who is a registered Radiologic Technologist. Care is provided in collaboration with the patient, family and other member of the patient focused care team. Overall responsibilities are to assist the team in meeting Patient Care needs and the needs of the department.
Organizational Expectations:
Practices within the Medical Center's policies and procedures and Division of Radiology standards of practice, and Division of MRI standard of practice, including attendance and dress code policies. Maintains infection control standards, implement appropriate patient safety protocols as necessary. Adheres to the Intensive Caring Value statements as demonstrated through positive patient/guest relations, positive and effective interactions with staff, and formulating and meeting developmental goals. Effectively communicates with all members of the Patient Care team, interactions promote teamwork and resolution of conflict. Serves as preceptor to new team members as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
For Hire: High School Graduate or GED certificate required. One year of experience as a hospital aide, EMT certification, or completion of a military corpsman training program with direct Patient Care experience required. Successful completion of PCA training course required. Experience in an acute care environment preferred.
On going: Demonstrated competence to meet essential job functions. Maintains knowledge related to Patient Care issues, quality improvement, cost reduction, and current policies, procedures and protocols.

Clinical Support
Clinical Support is responsible for assisting healthcare professionals in providing a variety of direct and indirect Patient Care activities in collaboration with the patient, family, and other members of the care team.
Patient Care Services
Patient Care Services is responsible for assisting physicians and registered nurses in the examination and treatment of patients. Performs a variety of Patient Care tasks which can include: measuring vital signs and monitoring health, collecting samples, recording information on patients' charts and preparing treatment rooms for examination.

Individual Contributor - Technical - Work is primarily achieved through individual efforts or by participation on functional or project teams. May coordinate, influence, or review the work of others. May be the primary owner/authority on a given program or process. Performs work of technical (i.e. skilled trade), operational, or administrative nature. Work is performed within clearly established guidelines and procedures. Execution of work is dependent on guidance and decisions made by others. At Lead level may coordinate and review day-to-day work of others. Typically does not require a university degree but post secondary education or training may be useful or required.
T2 : Experienced
Proficient technically or operationally. Continues to develop confidence and knowledge in more advanced technical and operational areas. Basic knowledge of processes and/or tools required for the role through on-the-job experience and training. May serve as informal resource for less experienced colleagues. Recognizes and solves routine issues that occur within the team or department without supervisory approval. May rely upon guidance and training from supervisor and more experienced colleagues when atypical issues are encountered. General support and instruction given for routine work but more detailed instruction and guidance needed for new activities or special projects. Evaluates and selects solutions from established options or procedures. Typically interacts with immediate supervisor and work team on routine matters and may also occasionally interact with other teams, departments, or customers. Effectively communicates more complicated information.
