The Ohio State University Medical Center is committed to enhancing the quality of care provided to patients. The Lead Patient Care Associate (PCA) or Psychiatric Care Technician (PCT) functions as an integral member of a team of care providers on a Patient Care unit, who reflect a culture of cooperation, enthusiasm, and mutual respect. The Lead Patient Care Associate (PCA) or Psychiatric Care Technician (PCT) is a subject and professional matter expert. The Lead PCA / PCT has advanced training and is a key partner in shared governance focused on improvement initiatives. Along with the team, provides Patient Care and supportive services that are directed towards achievement of Patient Care outcomes, maximizing the patient's involvement in his/her own plan of care, improving service levels, reducing the length of hospitalization stay, and decreasing costs. The Lead PCA/PCT will assist with the unlicensed ancillary personnel schedules and unit assignments as well as ancillary competency and educational opportunities. Patients and their family will experience the benefits of patient focused care through the integrated skills of all care team members.
Position Summary:
The Lead PCA/PCT will support the Patient Care treatment process by assisting the physicians, registered nurse, and other clinical/non-clinical staff in the appropriate delivery of Patient Care services. The Lead PCA/PCT may be expected to perform multiple advanced clinical support tasks. The Lead PCA/PCT is responsible for providing a variety of direct and indirect Patient Care activities as supervised and directed by the Registered Nurse or Nurse Management team. Care is provided in collaboration with the patient, family, and other members of the patient focused care team.
Minimum Qualifications
For Hire:
High school diploma. Two years of PCA/PCT experience required, which includes one year as a Senior PCA/PCT at OSU Medical Center. Experience, either on-the-job or via educational program, in the advanced clinical support skills required by the clinical department and documented. BLS certification is required.
