- Conducts inspections to ensure proposed construction conforms to the International Mechanical Code and International Fuel Gas Code
- Discuss repairs, alterations, and new construction with owners and contractors; explains and interprets building codes and regulations.
- Issues verbal or written orders for correction of defects in materials, workmanship, and other violations of codes and ordinances.
- Documents inspection results and investigations in laptop or desktop computer using land development software.
- Responds to questions by phone pertaining to building related codes.
- Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Six (6) years of experience in private and/or municipal installation, service, repair, or inspection of HVAC equipment.
- A Current Master Specialist HVAC Technician Certificate will substitute for 3 years of the experience and license requirements.
- Current Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician Certification issued by the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation (TDLR).
- Current International Code Council (ICC) Residential and Commercial Mechanical certification as a Mechanical Inspector.
- Current International Fuel Gas Inspector certification.
- Valid driver's license with good driving record.
- Additional International Code Council Certifications is a plus.
- Spanish bilingual skills a plus.
- Ability to work in fast paced environment preferred.
- Excellent Customer service and communications skills preferred.
- Knowledge of Building Code and other related codes, ordinances, laws, regulations, and manuals governing HVAC work.
- Knowledge of safe and proper methods of HVAC systems, installation and repair; proper inspection methods and procedures; legal procedures involved in the enforcement of HVAC systems codes and ordinances.
- Knowledge of precautionary, safety and fire prevention methods involved in HVAC systems; fundamentals of heating, ventilation and electricity as they relate to HVAC systems; code requirements and inspection methods in other trade areas.
- Knowledge using a computer to maintain inspection records and write reports; inspect inside and outside of buildings.
- Exercise initiative making recommendations to management.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, workers, supervisors, peers and the general public.
- Ability to read and write reports regarding inspections and permit.
- Ability to measure and compute construction costs.

For evaluation purposes, acceptable qualifying experience for all positions must have been in a paid capacity unless noted otherwise in the minimum qualifications for the posted position..
Additionally, 30+ hours per week will be counted as full-time employment and will receive full credit for the amount of time employed. A minimum of 15 through 29 work hours per week will be counted as part-time employment and will receive half credit for the amount of time employed.
