Deck Training Officer- The Training Ship Kennedy offers a unique opportunity to sail a training cruise with cadets during Sea Term 2024 from April 15th- May 26th. Following a week of alongside training, TS Kennedy departs Buzzards Bay on April 20th to support the teaching and training of freshmen, sophomore, and senior cadets in navigation and seamanship training. All personnel aboard the ship will be required to have a COVID-19 vaccine; the Academy will provide a vaccine for any successful applicant who is not otherwise vaccinated. All sailing aboard TS Kennedy must hold a T.W.I.C. card; MMA Human Resources will assist in the attainment of the credential for those who are eligible, but do not hold a current T.W.I.C.
The successful candidate will teach cadets seamanship, shipboard safety and emergency preparedness, navigation, watchstanding, and pollution awareness aboard the TS Kennedy. Training is conducted six days a week (Sundays off) during daytime hours. Schedule requires flexibility in both training sessions and subject matter. Actual subjects will be assigned based on experience.
Qualifications:
- 2nd Mate Unlimited USCG MMC with valid Medical Certificate and time sailing on an unlimited license required.
- Management level MMC and demonstrated effective teaching experience preferred.
- Must be comfortable independently instructing groups of no more than 20 students.
- The ideal candidate enjoys mentoring and working with young people.
