Description
Versatile communications position responsible for assisting with various Communications and marketing activities and supporting the planning and execution of City-sponsored events. Works under the close supervision of the Communications Manager or their designee.
Examples of Duties
Assists with writing, design, editing, and dissemination of communications materials, including print, digital and social media content.
Collaborates with the team on website maintenance and e-news distribution and provides staff training, as needed.
Assists with coordination, planning and executing special events.
Supervises event activities and exercises time-management of entertainment and other activities.
Supports the crew with the setup and breakdown of events.
Assists with securing event sponsors, vendors, and entertainment.
Interacts cooperatively and professionally with the public.
Recognizes and acts to correct hazardous conditions that present immediate risk.
Typical Qualifications
High School graduation or GED equivalent. Experience in event planning, Communications and/or marketing. Bachelor's Degree or equivalent is preferred.
- Experience writing and creating content (for both print and digital channels).
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with a diverse group of individuals.
- Demonstrates experience and knowledge associated with large-scale public events.
- Related experience and knowledge of best practices regarding event operations.
- Basic knowledge and ability to work with graphic design applications (Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, etc.) is a desirable skill.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the general public.
- Demonstrates ability to work independently, apply knowledge of the applicable codes to the position and manage time effectively.
- Must be available to work all City-sponsored events. (Some early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays required.)
- State of Illinois Class "D" Driver's License with a good driving record.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
