BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Pool Manager, the Assistant Pool Manager will plan, organize, direct and manage aquatic programs which may include one or more of the following: public swim, night swim, lap swim, junior lifeguarding, swim meets, group swim lessons, private swim lessons and other related activities and programs.
Example of Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Trains, motivates and evaluates assigned staff; reviews progress and suggests changes as needed.
Provides leadership and direction in the development of short and long range plans; prepares data for studies, reports and recommendations; coordinates activities and training with other departments and outside agencies as needed.
Communicates official plans, policies and procedures to supervisor, staff and the general public.
Determines work procedures, and expedites workflow; studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of operations.
Issues written and oral instructions; assigns duties and examines work for exactness, nearness and conformance to policies and procedures.
Maintains harmony among workers and resolves grievances; performs or assists subordinates in performing duties; addresses errors and complaints.
Prepares attendance, accident, incident and routine accounting reports.
Coordinates staff in the development and implementation of aquatics programs.
Schedules, prepares and coordinates staff trainings throughout the season.
Directs the patrolling of the pool and the enforcement of safety rules and regulations.
Supervises classes, and co-sponsored programs.
Schedules and runs various aquatics events throughout the season, including lap swim, scuba and junior lifeguarding programs.
Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering phones, typing correspondence, running errands, obtain supplies needed for activities, conducting classes, selling passes, collecting fees; making arrangements for rental and use of pool, helping set up for classes and events.
Responds to public inquiries about aquatics programs.
Coordinates special aquatics programs, registers participants, collects fees, and acquires coaches, instructors and assigned lifeguards.
Oversees the maintenance of the swimming pool. Monitors pool water chemistry though testing of water samples. Maintain maintenance records.

Typical Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Knowledge of aquatics planning and administration.
Knowledge of the facilities, operations and techniques used in a community aquatics program.
Skill in First Aid, CPR, and Lifeguarding.
ABILITY TO:
Ability to develop, coordinate, and direct varied activities involved in an aquatics program.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors, community leaders, and the general public.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to plan and supervise the work of paid staff and volunteers.
Report to work every scheduled workday.
