St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School (SSSAS) of Alexandria, VA is looking to hire a dynamic and engaging Part-time Health Education Instructor for 5th-grade students from the beginning of April until the end of May who wants to make a real difference in the lives of students. The Health Education Instructor will play a vital role in delivering instruction to coeducational classes that will be conducted once or twice a week. Key responsibilities will include:
- Exploring the concept of Health and strategies for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
- Covering areas such as exercise, sleep, hygiene, and nutrition.
- Discussing puberty, hormonal changes, and understanding different body types.
- Addressing mental health, emotional changes, and making healthy decisions.
- Introducing mindfulness and stress-relieving techniques.
- Utilizing the book "It's So Amazing" by Robie Harris and Michael Emberley for age-appropriate discussions.
- Exploring topics like pregnancy, childbirth and reproduction.
- Exploring the concepts of love, intercourse, abstinence, and consent.
- Providing information on what constitutes a drug (general overview).
- Discussing social media use, safe online practices, and healthy ways to communicate.
- Addressing the challenges of transitioning to middle school and changing peer relationships.
Candidates should be able to establish and maintain a safe, orderly, and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning and implement effective classroom management strategies to promote positive behavior and social-emotional growth. The successful candidate will maintain open and clear communication with parents/guardians regarding classroom activities as well as collaborate with other teachers, specialists, and support staff to ensure a holistic approach to student development.

The successful candidate will be required to exercise professional judgment and responsibility in keeping with the expectations of the School's faculty.
The School accepts candidates with the following minimal qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Health Sciences, or related field. (Advanced Degree Preferred)
- Previous experience teaching or facilitating discussions with elementary school students.
- Knowledge of age-appropriate educational materials and resources.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Sensitivity to cultural differences and the ability to create an inclusive learning environment.
