Job summary
Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of Meade County Parks.
Duties
· Mows and maintains park and open space areas; mows lawns; weeds; cleans and maintains parks
· Drags ball fields; lines fields for games
· Inspects, washes, and performs routine maintenance of drinking fountains and restrooms
· Maintains and adjusts specialized turf care equipment and tools, including electric motors, pumps, and sprinklers, tractors, mowers and irrigation systems
· Operates tractors, mowers, jack hammers, welders, trucks, steam cleaners, buffers, washers, and other listed equipment as needed. Maintains current skills and knowledge in the proper and safe techniques of building and grounds maintenance functions
· Collects and disposes of solid waste from buildings and grounds; picks up litter from premises
· Assists in setting up and taking down equipment for various functions and programs, prepares facilities for program use.
· Performs any other duties as assigned by supervisor
Minimum requirements
High School Graduate; any combination of education and experience which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the work; valid state drivers license; pass background check and drug test
Abilities required
Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule; ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time; to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions; communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; to use equipment and tools properly and safely; ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies and the public. While performing job duties, the employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste or smell; lift and/or move more than 75 pounds; work near moving mechanical parts or in outside weather conditions. Employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals.
