Transylvania University is pleased to accept applications for Groundskeeper. The Groundskeeper maintains, cares, and modifies University grounds and landscapes by planting, cultivating, and trimming grounds and maintaining equipment and tools.

Essential Duties:
1.Seeds, waters, mulches, fertilizes, and applies chemicals to lawns and plants.
2. Transplants, prunes, trims, weeds, and cultivates trees, shrubs, ground cover, and flowers.
3. Mows lawns with riding or push mowers.
4. Picks up and disposes of litter.
5. Does weekend trash pickups on a rotating schedule with other groundskeepers.
6. Empties trash receptacles.
7. Rakes, sweeps, and bags leaves, debris, and dirt from sidewalks and parking lots.
8. Lays sod.
9. Removes snow and salts walkways.
10. Actively participates in snow removal from parking lots, sidewalks, steps and building entryways to assure the safety of our students and campus community while understanding that this may be a 24/7 requirement during certain weather conditions.
11. Performs routine and preventative maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment.
12. Applies chemicals used in groundskeeping properly and safely by wearing approved protective clothing, masks, gloves, etc.
13. Performs oil changes and minor service work to Facilities vehicles and equipment when weather conditions do not allow outside work to take place.
14. Safely operates light vehicles such as pick-up trucks, tractors, skidsteers, riding mowers, portable power tools, snow/leaf blowers, and other equipment.
15. This position will report to the Building Operations Maintenance Manager during the off season (typically January and February) to assist with minor building maintenance such as preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment, painting, assisting with furniture moves, etc. The same procedure will be expected during poor weather conditions that do not allow outside work to take place.
Secondary Duties:
- Loads and unloads truck deliveries.
- Prepares classrooms, auditoriums, and outdoor locations for special events.
- Moves existing furniture.
- Sets up chairs, tables, equipment, carpet, etc.
- Repairs sprinkler heads on sports fields and campus grounds, sets up and shuts down irrigation systems at the beginning and ending of each season. Schedules irrigation run times based on current weather conditions.
- Acts in a courteous professional manner at all times.
- Contributes to overall success of the University/Facilities Management Dept by performing all other duties as assigned.
- Assists maintenance during the off season and inclement weather as needed.
