General Position Summary
Performs a variety of manual work, light equipment operation and customer services in the areas of maintenance of park facilities and the interactive water feature, special events and picnic site reservations.
Position Schedule and Duration
40 Hours per week, approximately six month duration. Work days will include five, 8 hr. shifts, and potential split shifts, and will include weekdays, weekend and holiday work.
Essential Functions
- Maintain City parks and sport fields; mow and edge, repair and maintain irrigation systems; plant and maintain flower beds; rake leaves, prune and trim trees, remove brush and trash; remove graffiti; and repair fences.
- Perform maintenance and operation of interactive water feature, to include monitoring and adjustments of chemical levels.
- Pick up and dispose of trash.
- Clean picnic shelters and picnic tables.
- Clean park restrooms.
- Transport, set up and take down equipment and supplies for special events.
- Monitor, report, and/or repair conditions within park facilities to maintain a safe, proper and appropriate environment.
- Receive and direct visitors; answer inquires, receive and respond to customer complaints and problems. If unable to respond, direct individuals to appropriate person.
- Organize and assemble materials and equipment necessary for tasks.
- Provide assistance and first aid when needed. Contact appropriate emergency services (911) when needed.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Job Scope
Position is subject to recurring work situations with occasional variations from the norm requiring a moderate degree of complexity. The incumbent operates from specific and definite directions and instructions independently with minimal supervision.

Physical Activities:
Position requires continuous standing and walking; frequent talking, hearing, handling, feeling, and repetitive motions of hands and wrists; occasional stooping, reaching, bending, and repetitive motions of feet, and rare crawling, sitting, fingering, kneeling, and climbing. Must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry 80 pounds and push and pull 200 pounds.
Education/Experience
High School Graduate or GED.
Special Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Successful completion of pre-employment background check.
- Valid Washington State Driver's License with satisfactory driving record.
- Possession of or ability to obtain within three months current CPR and First Aid certification.
Job Conditions
Work is performed primarily in a field environment and requires driving to a variety of locations to perform work. Employee may be exposed to noise from machinery and equipment operation, to all weather conditions, and to conditions and hazards from obstacles, rough terrains, heights and open trenches associated with construction sites. Employee may be exposed to potentially hazardous materials and equipment, fumes or vapors Employee will be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Position may include contact with dissatisfied or abusive individuals.
