Paraeducator Specialist - ELL Instruction and Translation Services
BILINGUAL REQUIRED (Ukrainian/Russian preferred)
6.75 hrs per day/180 days per year
Shift time is subject to building needs.
Paraeducator Specialist - ELL Instruction and Translation Services
Coordinates activities or performs specialized duties to assist in providing instruction to and supervision of students in a variety of instructional and non-instructional programs.
General Qualifications
If you do not have the minimum college credits for this position, you may take the Paraeducator Assessment. Complete this FORM if you'd like to be scheduled for the assessment.
- High school diploma or GED and a minimum of 72 college quarter credits from a nationally accredited institution or pass ETS test required.
- Experience working with students in an educational setting.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Bilingual/Biliterate required; must receive Level 9 on ALTA Assessment.
- Ability to relate in a positive manner with students, parents, and staff/teachers, supervisory staff.
- Ability to work with elementary students in a tutoring situation.
- Successful experience working with students with disabilities.
- Must be willing to respond with compassion to a student needing assistance with personal care, including verbally coaching students through such situations.
Paraeducator Responsibilities
- Meet performance expectations as outlined in MLSD #161 Classified Employee Performance Evaluation.
- Always punctual. If absences are required, inform the supervisor early enough so that normal work flow is not interrupted.
- Well groomed and has a neat and clean appearance. Dresses appropriately for job assignment.
- Promptly and accurately follows specific instructions, and performs duties with a positive attitude.
- Applies appropriate discipline according to district procedures and behavior plans.
- Works independently and solves problems with minimal supervision.
- Works well with special needs children individually or in small groups to communicate the appropriate learning objectives as outlined in their individualized educational program (IEP) under supervision of certified staff.
- Builds a positive relationship with special needs students.
- Encourages special needs students to develop positive relationships with their peers.
- Has or gets Non-violent Crisis Intervention and Non-violent Restraint training.
- Receives training to gain understanding of specific disabilities.
- Responsibly supervises special needs students in the classroom, lunchroom, etc.
- Responsible for supervision of special needs students upon arrival and departure from school.
- Monitors activities to ensure safety and compliance with school rules.
- Assists special needs students who are ill or injured in a responsible, caring manner.
- Accepts and acts on suggestions and comments for improving performance.
- Must have excellent attendance.
- Other duties as assigned.
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Criminal history clearance through Washington State Patrol and FBI.
- Within the first year of employment, successfully complete the Washington State Fundamental Course of Study for Paraeducators provided by the District, as defined in RCW 28A.413.070, and continue to meet future requirements as mandated by the State.
