Summary of Position:
The PACU Technician assists licensed staff in the provision of basic nursing care in the PACU Department, utilizing established policies and procedures, ensuring safe and effective care.
Qualifications
Education:
• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Associate Degree preferred.
Experience:
• Experience required in vital signs, bed making and patient transfer techniques required.
• One year healthcare experience in a hospital environment preferred
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Knowledge of or experience with Medical Terminology.
• Highly effective written and verbal communications skills.
• Proficient computer skills as are required to document, communicate and enter information into the electronic medical records system.
• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
• In compliance with patient safety standards, must be able to effectively communicate in English; Bilingual abilities preferred
Certifications/Licensure:
• Current CPR/BLS certification by the American Heart Association (BLS for the Healthcare Provider)
• CNA, MA or EMT preferred.

• Occasional travel to various health system locations.
Essential Functions
1. Provides consistently exceptional care at all times.
2. As directed by licensed nursing staff, provides care in a manner that is safe and sensitive to the rights of each patient.
3. As directed, assists the care team by collecting patient care data at designated and appropriate intervals on all assigned patients. Reports finding to licensed staff.
4. Recognizes and accurately reports relevant patient information to licensed staff.
5. Utilizes time, equipment, and supplies in an efficient manner. Completes all assigned duties during designated shift.
6. Provides assistance to patients for personal hygiene, self-care activities, ambulation, exercise and dietary needs.
7. Correctly performs point of service testing, catheter care, and 12 lead EKGs
8. Communicates appropriate information regarding patient safety and infection control to RN or nurses manager.
9. Ensures that all aspects of patient care are documented. Documentation is complete, accurate and timely.
10. Operates equipment and performs job related duties in a safe manner. Insures proper functioning of equipment and follows procedure when equipment malfunctions.
11. Transports patients to and from the perianesthesia care units to other units in the hospital as needed, and assists discharged outpatients to their vehicles.
12. Demonstrates a working knowledge of regulatory and licensing standards and ensures that practice is compliant with standards.
13. Responds to the needs of the department by performing other duties, as necessary.
