Position Title: Packing and Create Specialist
Work Location: Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina
Summary: Advantage SCI has an opportunity for a Woodworker (Packing and Create Specialist) to provide services for our government customer. The successful candidate will construct and repair items such as boxes, crates, pallets, and storage bins from wood and wood substitutes.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Construct and repair items such as boxes, crates, pallets, and storage bins from wood and wood substitutes
- Studies specifications; and measures, marks, and cuts wood boards, using patterns, templates, ruler, pencil, and hand and power saws.
- Fastens or installs parts, using hammer, nailing machine, or power staple
- Repairs defective containers by replacing damaged parts, inserts wood bracings, cardboard files, and felt pads in containers
- May build crate around object, using ruler, hand tools, and pneumatic nailer
- May fabricate, repair, modify, and replace woodwork on military vehicle sides and beds for shipping
- May pack, seal, band, and apply markings to crates and containers in accordance with military requirements.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned or requested
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Education
- Minimum of two (2) years' experience in direct relevant work listed in duties
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Certificate of training or completion of training from vocational school or other recognized source in woodworking
- In lieu of formal course work, a combination of OJT, other formalized training, or experience may be considered. Requires proof of considerable knowledge of the standard tools and equipment and techniques used in the repair and building of military transportation compliant crates, pallets and storage bins
- Possess a current, valid state driver's license
- Must successfully complete a background check and be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC)
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen
- Must be able to successfully pass a National Agency Check (NAC) within 60 days of hire if required
- Must be able to provide copy of COVID vaccination or have a reasonable accommodation or approved medical exception
- Able to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently
- Have licensed and registered and current inspection for reliable transportation to work
- Ability to comply with all established environmental regulations, methods, quality standards, and time schedules applicable to this position
- Ability to operate a forklift, various power tools, wrenches and jacks
- Willing to work weekends and other hours if needed
- Will comply with company and customer security, safety and other plant/facility/installation regulations while performing services on customer premises.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Shop or warehouse environment; may be required to perform some duties outside in cold and hot environments
- Medium to high noise levels
- Frequent lifting to 20lbs, lifting up to 35lbs, team lifting up to 50lbs
- Constant standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, crawling and walking
- May require using and wearing personal protective equipment such as, hearing and eye protection, hard hat, and steel-toed boots
