RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assures that a Work Authorization Form (WAF) ticket is on the job site and that it is for the specific job being accomplished, no work will be accomplished without a WAF posted at location of repairs.
- Assures that any other safety issues are complied with that relate to the specific job being accomplished (Example: special staging, face shields for grinding, protective clothing for hot work-related jobs, breathing apparatus with correct cartridges, etc.).
- Assures that you are trained or qualified for the work you are assigned to do (Example: JLG, forklift, welding, brazing, special electrical/mechanical repairs, etc.).
- Assures that personnel are working as safely and as productively as possible always maintaining quality control.
- Assures that a 30-minute cool down period has been accomplished in hot work areas.
- Assures that the job site is left in a safe and clean condition prior to departure.
- Complete repairs or installation(s) as assigned with no supervision.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 2-5 years directly related experience in a Shipyard Environment.
- Able to read and use tech manuals and blueprints and specification items.
- Able to use and understand precision measuring instruments.
- Climb on and around ships and walk to other yard areas and requires extended periods of standing and walking (75%).
- Inspections and work may require climbing ladders, working at heights, walking on scaffolding and observing co-workers using tools and equipment.
- Lifting/carrying tools and parts weighing up to 50 lbs. on frequent basis.
- Standing, bending, sitting, reaching, pushing, pulling, crouching, kneeling, handling, finger dexterity, feeling, eye/hand/foot coordination, seeing, hearing required.
- Selecting appropriate tools for jobs, as per trade classification.
- Works in tight, confined workspaces on board ship and is exposed to varied temperatures, wind, wet and humid conditions, fumes, odors and dust, vibrations from ship and hand tools.
- Operate grinder (fixed and portable).
- Operate drill presses (fixed and portable).
- Fixed presses, porta powers, and hydraulic jacks.
- Torches and torque wrenches.
- Assorted sizes of combination wrenches.
- Socket sets, slip joint pliers, adjustable wrenches, and wire pliers.
- Hammers-ball pean, flat head, small mall, and screw drivers (flat and phillips).
- Vise grips, 6” scale- 12’ tape measure, and snap ring pliers.
- Micrometers, dial indicators, and calipers.
- Pipe wrench, punch set, and chisels.
- Other tools as identified and determined as needed.
- Shafting repairs and alignment fixed and controllable pitch.
- Propellers removed and installed.
- Rudder's repair and installed.
