INTERNSHIP TITLE: Orchestra Operations Intern
DATES: Summer 2024
PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE:
- The Orchestra Operations Intern will be responsible for assisting the Operations Department with all day-to-day Orchestra Operations. Primary areas of responsibility include work on concert production for a variety of products performed at Heinz Hall and preparations for concerts outside of Heinz Hall including orchestra tours and additional concerts performed in the region.
- Reports to: Senior Manager of Orchestra Operations
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop a thorough understanding of Orchestra Operations concepts, including working with collective bargaining agreements and managing an orchestra schedule.
- Observe and participate in “hands-on” work backstage with orchestra musicians and production staff for specific concerts within and outside of Heinz Hall.
- Assist with preparation for domestic and international tours. Draft departure memos; research venues and travel bulletins; assist with database entry, tracking, and reporting; generate sign-up sheets as assigned; compile content for management books; and assist with distributing key information to musicians and staff.
- Assist the Personnel Department with PSO auditions.
- Prepare media components and props for PSO concerts.
- Assist with department organization; prepare drafts of production documents; proofread Operations Department correspondence.
- Other duties/projects as assigned.
The ideal candidate must possess the ability to work independently as well as function as part of a collaborative team. Other requirements include:
- Microsoft Office products necessary, Outlook and Teams preferred.
- Applicant should have a respect for details, accuracy and organization.
- Applicant should be enthusiastic, have strong communication skills, and be a team-player.
- Must be comfortable handling confidential materials with discretion.
- Applicant should have a love of arts and be interested in arts management.
- Ability and willingness to work irregular hours, including some evenings and weekends.
This is an unpaid internship, but the intern may qualify for pay through Federal Community Service Work Study, or may qualify for class credit. This position will average a minimum of 20 hours per week.
