Education:
- Associate degree in nursing (ADN) required.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in related field preferred (BSN/MSN).
Experience
- Five years of Acute Hospital Operating Room experience are required.
- PACU Experience preferred.
- Knowledge of nursing theory and practice is required.
- Knowledge of program development and administration is required.
Licensure/Certification/Registration
- Current South Carolina (or compact state) licensure as RN (SCLLR) in good standing required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
- Pediatric Advance Cardiovascular Life Support (PALS) certification preferred.
- CNOR certification preferred.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist the Director in providing administrative direction to management staff within areas of responsibility, including supporting plan development, priority-setting, decision-making, and professional development as well as hiring and performance management.
- Other responsibilities may include, but are not limited to; coordination of schedules, task assignments, and allocation of resources to ensure conformance with specified objectives and policies.
- Assist in reviewing and planning as well as budgetary recommendations.
- Lead changes regarding quality of care and operational enhancements, including implementation and communication, and will work with management and staff to promote hospital policies and procedures.
- Assist with leadership and collaboration between the Operating Room, Pre-op, Post-Anesthesia Recovery Room, Sterile Processing and Anesthesia Services.
- Oversee and evaluate the skill sets of staff.
- Represents OR Management and acts as liaison between nursing, the OR staff and surgeons on the team, and other hospital departments.
- Contributes to the daily efficient performance of the department by ensuring on-time start times for all surgical cases and effective communication between OR, PACU and ODSU.
- Serves as the communication liaison to family and members of the operating team.
- Serves as an internal expert and provides advice or guide peers/staff on all aspects related to the assigned specialty.
- Seeks continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the surgical team.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of OR routines and ability to assist the surgical Technologists with equipment set up.
- Work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues, physicians, department heads, and members of executive leadership.
- Provide exemplary core customer service.
- Effectively utilize strong organizational skills.
- Consistently display effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Explorer, and PowerPoint.
- Regularly exercise independent judgment and remain calm and professional in all situations.
