Your Specific Responsibilities:
The incumbent if part of a global public health organization and is expected to support the Florida Department of Health in Polk County in its missionto protect, promote, and improve the health of all people in Florida through integrated state, county and community efforts and its vision to be the Healthiest State in the Nation. This is a OPS Data Processing Control Specialist position that serves as a professional data and research analyst and provides data input and analysis support to the Environmental Health Division in the OSTDS Program in Polk County. This position assists the OSTDS program supervisor with tracking, monitoring, and reporting metrics in partnership with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). The employee assists with data reporting and input needs of the program, including data research and analysis, and must be detail oriented.
In carrying out the duties of this position, the incumbent is expected to be aware of and abide by the Florida Department of Health's Standards of Conduct, and all departmental and/or work unit rules, directives, policies, procedures, and/or general orders applicable to performing the duties of this position. This position works collaboratively as a team with other environmental professionals, including geologists, engineers, environmental specialists, water operators, and other scientists. The incumbent is expected to maintain courteous, professional relationships with DEP, DOH, private contractors, and Environmental Health Division staff. This position is in the Bartow office of the Environmental Health Division in Polk County.
Data Entry
The incumbent assists the OSTDS program with data entry into the Environmental Health Data Base or other data bases such as DEP Oracle, Oculus, Excel, as required.
Record Management
The incumbent will assist in Records management incuding, filing, electronic records uploading, records documentation, and other activities as required.
Other Duties
Incumbent will complete other duites relationg to Environment Health Division Work as assigned by supervisor.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the concepts, terminology, principles and analytical techniques of an engineering, environmental, or biological specialty area.
- Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to environmental programs
- Knowledge of engineering concepts and terminology.
- Skill in data collection, review of documents, and organizing files and records.
- Skill in water sampling and inspection processes.
- Knowledge of engineering design, construction, production, and/or operations.
- Ability to learn to use engineering tools, equipment, and/or instruments.
- Ability to read water quality data and/or lab reports
- Ability to analyze and interpret data.
- Ability to solve problems relating to science.
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Skill in the operation of a personal computer and the use of common software applications
Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or its equivalent and two years of DATA PROCESSING experience.
- College education from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours for each year of the required experience provided such education includes three courses in DATA PROCESSING.
- Vocational/technical training in DATA PROCESSING can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours for each year of the required experience.

Emergency Duty: Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
