Summary
In a electro-mechanical manufacturing and equipment service environment, drives the long-range strategic planning process for operations by overseeing and managing all manufacturing and service operations, including manufacturing itself the production process, assembly, test, production control, inventory control, potential materials functions, such as purchasing, and shipping/receiving activities. The manager might have direct management or may interface closely with engineering functions such as product engineering, manufacturing engineering, and equipment engineering. Defines goals, improves technologies, and resolves problems in conjunction with managers of manufacturing, quality assurance, engineering, and sales. Translates customer requirements into state-of-the-art manufacturing strategies and processes, resulting in cost-effective processing and profitable manufacturing of company products. Develops operations-related plans, budgets, and policies and procedures. Maintains safety and regulatory compliance relating to the production facility. May direct international manufacturing operations. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function. May act as the site lead, being the focal point for building related responsibilities, security, contractors and other services at the site.

Performs all required management responsibilities including but not limited to: implementing the company's policies, programs, and guidelines; ensuring employee productivity and growth; managing resources; knowing Varex’s business; and maintaining functional, technical, and external market awareness necessary for managing the immediate organization. Assures purchasing representation on change review board to coordinate subcontracted materials and minimize excess material write-off.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND CERTIFICATIONS
Minimum Required Skills and Knowledge
- Ability, competence, and confidence to lead people.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Education, experience, and/or training related to manufacturing operations and management.
- Experience in a customer support / repair depot situation where customer communication, accuracy, and agility are required to provide excellent service to customers.
Experience Level with Business Tools
- Proficient in utilizing business tools such as: E-mail, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with SAP or equivalent ERP product and productivity software desired.
Typical Education and Experience
- Bachelors Degree or equivalent
- 8 years of related experience.
- 3 years management experience or supervisory equivalent
Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation.
- Medium to light work that will occasionally (1-33%) require employee to lift/move up to 80 lbs.
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or moving heavy equipment and/or supplies occasionally 1-33%.
- Reaching above and below the shoulder occasionally 1-33%.
- Above-average agility and dexterity with the ability to hold, grasp and manipulate small parts and use hand and power tools occasionally 1-33%.
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and handle physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, walking, bending, crouching, stretching, reaching, repetitive motion, or similar activities.
- Work environments includes: exposure to electrical current, proximity to moving mechanical parts, working around equipment that produces X-rays.
- On site position at our Houston, Texas site. Valid driver’s license recommended.
- Typical work schedule is 8 AM – 4:30 PM or as required to provide service and support to customers and internal team members.
