ABOUT THE MOCKINGBIRD SOCIETY

The Mockingbird Society (TMS) is a non-partisan advocacy organization focused on transforming foster care and ending youth homelessness. We do this by creating, supporting, and advocating for racially equitable, healthy environments that develop youth and young adults at risk of or experiencing foster care or homelessness.


POSITION SUMMARY

The Operations Manager assists in operational aspects of the organization’s strategy and helps accomplish strategic goals through tactical execution of initiatives. The position is internally focused and advances Mockingbird’s mission by supporting these key objectives:

  • Ensuring that the organization’s future growth is successfully and sustainably managed through systems, services, policies, and practices.
  • Implementing and maintaining systems and structures for operational administration, information technologies, and duty of care/organizational safety.
  • Fostering cross-departmental collaboration and multi-disciplinary strategies that enhance the work of TMS and are consistent with executing the organization’s strategic plan.
  • Ensure smooth functioning of the organization by driving operational efficiencies and recommends improvements in systems and practices.


The Operations Manager must execute their duties with a high degree of emotional intelligence and collaboration. They are expected to bring critical thinking, strategic, and operational expertise to the team. The ideal candidate will help execute with passion and commitment to social justice, display excellent communication skills and maturity in handling confidential situations, and is a tech-savvy problem solver who will foster a workplace culture in which staff and young people thrive.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES


Operations

  • Ensure operational excellence by conducting training in safety, duty of care, and IT and software usage.
  •  Assist in developing and implementing organizational wide policies, systems and strong working practices which allow us to operationalize our strategic plans efficiently and effectively and enable collaborative cross team collaboration and innovation.
  • In collaboration with Director of Operations, continuously assess internal systemic and structural challenges facing the organization and identify solutions to address those challenges.
  • Assist in organizations’ procurement process and consultant Review consulting relationships annually with team leaders.
  • Assist in compliance with vendor contracts and IT software usage.
  • Assist in maintaining operations manuals.
  • Assist in communicating changes and updates to staff on behalf of the Administration team.


Information Technology

  • In collaboration with the Director of Operations, continuously assess the information technology needs of the organization and identify solutions to meet those needs.
  • Support the efficient implementation of IT infrastructure, systems, and security
  • Support the research and evaluation of new technologies and solutions to respond to emerging issues, and keep current regarding new hardware and software products.
  • Support software training for staff


Safety and Duty of Care

  • Assist in office preparedness, safety, and health standards
  • Support the organizational disaster readiness
  • Support the safety and training for external events
  • Assist in conducting annual safety training


Human Resources

  • Support HR Generalist as needed
  • Support new staff orientation and on-boarding process, including conducting new staff orientation safety training


QUALIFICATIONS

Must demonstrate a commitment to social and economic justice through collective/direct action, building collective power for BIPOC staff; managing competing strategic priorities, working in a team environment with a willingness to work a flexible schedule some evenings and weekends when necessary, and the ability to work independently.

  • More than five years’ experience in an operations position, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in operations capacity.
  • Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
  • A natural leader who focuses on the growth and well-being of others
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute at an organizational levels 
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously and exercise confidentiality
  • Highly organized and self-motivated; consistently meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Computer-savvy with an understanding of technology hardware, software, and databases
  • Strong and consistent communication; able to manage projects and meet deadlines; and maintain effective and positive relationships with coworkers.
  • Experience working with youth leaders (ages 14-24) a plus
  • Ability to train and develop staff
  • Experience managing budgets and technical skills in using Microsoft Office and SharePoint


OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Upon date of hire, must be able to pass a Washington State and national criminal history
  • Access to reliable transportation, a valid WA state driver’s license, and adequate insurance
  • Frequent travel to Olympia, WA required during the legislative
  • Occasional travel to partner locations and conferences
  • Compliance with all agency policies regarding COVID-19 as well as state-mandated vaccination policy

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The salary range for this full-time position is $65,000 - $70,000, depending on experience and qualifications. This position can be part-time from 25 hours a week through 40 hours a week. In addition, The Mockingbird Society offers:
