How you will help us create value together:
As an Operations Intern, you will be responsible for a range of support activities for the Surface Product Management team. This position will provide support for the operations management team in our Heavy Fabrication Department. Activities will include, assisting the Department Manager, working with Production Floor supervisors on daily activities such as hours tracking, timekeeping, utilizing the union workforce to its full potential, working on cross functional teams with Quality and Tech Services. Working through potential incoming parts delays and working with Productions supervisors on creating and executing a Training Matrix.
This onsite position will be based onsite at our South Harbor location in Milwaukee's Harbor District. The target start date for this role is Summer 2024 and has potential to be extended into the Fall 2024 school semester. We offer full-time hours during the summer and flexible part-time hours during the academic year.
- Support production supervisors for drills, shovel structures, small and large assemblies, and large machining operations
- Work with SAP and Kronos to track labor hours to complete work
- Work with Safety to improve area standards
- Work with Tech Services on the transfer from SAP to MES
- Learn the union contract and Cardinal safety rules
- Work with IE's ME's and Supervisors on Kaizon for new areas
- Complete internal and external presentations on work results
- Work with Supply Chain on parts kitting for large structures
Basic Qualifications:
- Pursuing a bachelor's or advanced degree in supervisory management, or business management
- Junior, senior, or graduate level student in good academic standing
- Basic knowledge of shovels drills and fabrication and machine practices
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office products
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Effective communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous internship and project experience in the mining industry
- Coursework or projects related to Industrial manufacturing.
- Familiarity with Komatsu Surface Mining Equipment and operational practices
- Proficient with data analysis, manipulation, and visualization tools (Excel, Power Bi, Power Apps)
- Ability to explain complex procedures in a simple manner across multiple work teams
