The Specialty Pharmacy Intern will assist with customer service, pharmacy operations, and clinical programs of Lumicera Specialty Pharmacy. The primary responsibility of this position is to effectively communicate with teammates, patients, physicians, pharmacists, and payers in the fulfillment and patient care of specialty pharmacy medications in a Specialty Pharmacy. Additionally, this person must have the ability to assess patient needs, consult on specialty pharmaceuticals and disease states, accurately set up orders and needed medication supplies. Attention to detail with an eye for accuracy, quality and customer service excellence is a must.
This role focuses on the clinical management and consultation of patients utilizing specialty pharmaceuticals. This individual must answer incoming calls with a warm and professional greeting and accurately gathering relevant information for the prescription fulfillment process and clinical programs; performs outbound calls to patients, prescribers, and insurance companies to gather relevant clinical information. The Specialty Pharmacy Intern will assist in maintenance and development of Lumicera clinical programs and project initiatives in the specialty pharmacy space. This position must be able to collect data, establish facts, draw conclusions, and identify and solve clinical problems.

How do I make an impact on my team?
- Accept inbound calls from patients, prescribers, or other health professionals in support of the specialty pharmacy functions appropriate for the regulatory capabilities of the intern role.
- Collecting information from patients to set up medication orders and accurately adjudicate and dispense the prescriptions with oversight from pharmacists.
- Assisting with packaging shipments of medication in accordance with the correct shipping package design for the weather conditions at the package destination.
- Utilize operating systems and tools to help manage patient therapy and refill compliance.
- Act in accordance with all applicable federal and state laws and with the highest ethical standards. Thus, legal and ethical compliance is an essential duty of each employee.
- Effective and friendly customer service style with a focus on care and empathy.
- Detail-oriented; accurate order creation and execution.
- Able to execute multiple tasks simultaneously and complete goal-oriented tasks.
- Documents and reports medication errors to direct supervisor. Facilitates error reduction and prevention methods based off errors and ISMP standards. Performs FMEA risk assessments of new to market medications.
- Participate in the quality management program including participating in committees focused on monitoring and evaluation of performance data. Participate in quality improvement initiatives based on outcomes of those evaluations.
What our team expects from you?
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Wisconsin only: State of Wisconsin Pharmacy Technician Registration
- Enrollment in pre-pharmacy courses, an accredited school of pharmacy, and pharmacy experience strongly preferred.
- Participate in, adhere to, and support compliance program objectives
- The ability to consistently interact cooperatively and respectfully with other employees
