Job Description
esVolta seeks an Operations Director to oversee and manage all aspects of technical Asset Management for esVolta’s growing fleet of operational front-of-meter utility-scale battery energy storage projects. The Operations Director will report to the Company’s VP of Asset Management, and will collaborate closely with the Company’s development, construction, commercial operations, legal, and finance teams to ensure high level of operational performance and uptime through the operations and maintenance of the physical assets working in close coordination with BESS, EMS, and other service providers.
Key Responsibilities
The Director of Operations will oversee and manage all technical aspects of project operations for esVolta’s growing portfolio of energy storage projects. This role will be responsible for day-to-day monitoring of plant conditions, outage planning, coordination with the commercial team, plant and fleet operational performance, operations and maintenance of the physical assets, root cause analysis, project planning prior to operations, overseeing third-party vendors for high level of service, and implementation of energy storage best practices. We are looking for a pro-active individual with power plant / fleet operations and battery storage experience who is seeking a challenging role in a high growth industry with exposure to senior management.
· Develop, maintain, and implement best in-class O&M practices, standards and KPIs.
· Identify and manage operational risks and communicate with the commercial team and service providers; conduct operational analysis to identify lessons learned and RCAs.
· Lead the remote operations and site maintenance team with responsibility for communicating and ownership of corrective maintenance, preventative maintenance, and predictive maintenance of plants.
· Maintain a high level of safety and operational performance and compliance across all projects in coordination with HSE Director
· Lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously as the primary point-of-contact with internal and external stakeholders (esp. 3rd party service providers)
· Respond to data requests and support financial and commercial transactions as needed.
· Review and improve operational performance reports for assets including physical operations and measure operational performance versus budgeted and optimal outcomes.
· Review budgets and assist in procurement of operations and maintenance services.
· Develop long term Asset Management strategy around spare parts management, remote operations, NERC compliance, and build out of regional field services team.
· Engage with esVolta’s Engineering / Development team in early project design to include operational considerations and collaborate with the commercial operations team to optimize asset performance.
· Support intra-company teams in project planning, proforma financial model inputs, contract negotiations, and respond to other requests for information as required.
· Organize and maintain critical project resources on Teams, SharePoint, and other cloud storage platforms as needed.
Skills and Qualifications
· Bachelor’s and/or graduate degree in engineering or similar discipline if/where applicable.
· At least 10 years of experience managing, operating, or maintaining generation facilities.
· 2-4 years of battery storage experience strongly preferred.
· Experience working with and/or in remote operations centers.
· Excellent analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills.
· Self-motivated with an ability to own and lead resolution of difficult issues with a sense of urgency.
· Strong organizational, project and time management skills.
· Familiarity with electric power industry data and reporting requirements (NERC, ISO/RTO, etc.)
· Strong verbal and written communication skills. Effective at communicating technical topics to non-technical audiences.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications.
· Some travel will be required.
Compensation and Location
Compensation: The anticipated annual salary plus bonus range for this position is listed below. The actual salary and bonus offered will depend on the specific skills and experience of the selected candidate.
Location
· Flexible, option to work-from-home with periodic office visits for in-person engagement or to work from company offices in Newport Beach.
· Requires ability to travel to company offices, project sites and business meetings as needed.
