Job description

LIMITED TERM 12 MONTHS; MAY BE EXTENDED UP TO 24 MONTHS OR BECOME PERMANENT.
Under the general supervision of the General Population Associate Warden. This position is expected to exercise a high degree of initiative and independence in assuming responsibility for providing reception/clerical support for the General Population units/functions.
Type very complex and technical letters, memorandums and correspondence for the Associate Warden, AI assigned to the General Population units. Independently prepare correspondence and a variety of administrative tasks on behalf of the Associate Warden. Maintain calendar for the Associate Warden and schedule appointments.
Maintain a meticulous filing system to ensure deadlines are met. Prioritize all work assignments. Advise the Warden of daily functions within the assigned units. Notify the Warden of all scheduled or canceled appointments, which they should attend. Maintain the tickler system for all assignments.
Maintain Bulletin Boards and ensure Declaration of Postings are completed and submitted in a timely fashion. Order and maintain office supplies for the office. Maintain inventory of equipment and furniture. Call for repairs on any non-operational office equipment. Ensure 998's for non-custody staff assigned to the Associate Warden are completed and submitted by the established due dates to the Personnel Office.
Attend all training, meetings, and seminars as needed or required. Performs other related duties. Archive records on the established archive schedule.

San Quentin State Prison is California's oldest and best-known correctional institution, which was established on the site currently known as Point San Quentin, in July of 1852, as an answer to the rampant lawlessness in California at the time. The prison rests overlooking the bay on 432 acres and is located just 12 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge in the county of Marin. The walled prison is made up of four (4) large cell blocks (West, South, North, and East Block), one (1) maximum security cell block (the Adjustment Center), Central Health Care Service Building, a medium security dorm setting and a minimum security firehouse.
Special Requirements
  • The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired.
