Position Summary:

The Occupational Therapy Assistant will provide skilled Occupational Therapy services, on an intermittent basis, to patients, in their homes, under direction from the Occupational Therapist. Join us and help us grow our newest Agency.

Essential Functions:

  1. Under the direction of the occupational therapist (OT), provide patients, in their homes, which have been delegated by the Occupational Therapist.
  2. Under the direction of the occupational therapist (OT), assist in evaluation and development, of the rehabilitative plan of care and in periodic re-evaluation, as required.
  3. Participate in the preparation of clinical and daily progress notes and periodic summary reports.
  4. Together with the OT, instruct the patient and family; assist in teaching them exercise programs.
  5. Guide and instruct the patient and family; assist in teaching them exercise programs.
  6. Identify possible ineffective drug therapy or adverse reactions, significant side effects, drug allergies, and contra-indicated medication and reports same to OT.
  7. Observe, and record, activities and findings, in the clinical record and report to the OT, and the physician, the patient’s reaction to treatment and any changes in the patient’s condition.
  8. Consult with OT regarding the outcome of home visits and report physical findings, in written form.
  9. Under the supervision of the OT, assist in evaluation, and development, of the rehabilitative care plan and in periodic re-evaluation, as indicated.
  10. Instruct other health team personnel, as appropriate, including Home Health Aides, as well as family members, with respect to certain phases of Occupational Therapy, so that they may work with the patient.
  11. Attend rehabilitation department staff meetings and case conferences.
  12. Instruct patient in care and use of wheelchairs, braces, splints, and prosthetic and orthotic devices.
  13. Participate with staff, patients, and physicians, in discharge activities, and assist the Occupational Therapist in completing the Occupational Therapy Discharge Summary.
  14. Confirm schedule with Supervisor/clinical manager to coordinate Agency visits.
  15. Assume responsibility for self-development by continually striving to improve his/her health care knowledge through educational programs, attendance at workshops and conferences, active participation in professional and related organizations, and individual research and reading.
  16. Assume other duties, deemed appropriate, and necessary, by the OT.
  17. Must be licensed in the State of Florida as an Occupational Therapist Assistant.
  18. Must be licensed by the State of Florida.
  19. Must have criminal background check.

Must have CPR certification. Online certification is not accepted.

Education:

Successful completion of an Occupational Therapist education program

Experience:

  1. At least 1-year previous experience in community/home health agency.
  1. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.
  2. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to conduct effective presentations.
  3. Critical thinking, sound decision-making and solid leadership ability.
