Position SummaryThe Nutrition and Family Services (NFS) Program Director provides leadership to the WIC program, International District Clinic, Pioneer Square Clinic, Lake City Clinic, as well as the Maternal Child Health case management and Infant Mortality Prevention programs.  This person will serve as a clinician to provide medical nutrition therapy to relatives for the prevention or treatment of diet-related illnesses with emphasis on high risk WIC and prenatal patients, as well as non-WIC nutrition and chemical dependency patients.  The NFS Program Director serves as a member of the Divisional Leadership Team (DLT) for SIHB to inform and guide decisions and plans that impact the agency.  The FTE break down will be 75% direct clinical services and 25% administrative time.

Organizational Structure/Reporting RelationshipsThe NFS Program Director reports to the Medical Director and supervises a team of dieticians, WIC Program Director, and NFS program coordinator.

Job Responsibilities 

  • Provide culturally- attuned registered dietician care including medical nutrition therapy to high risk patient population using the nutrition care process for a variety of disease states.
  • Direct activities, hiring, and schedules of staff within the NFS Department.  Provide oversight and leadership to Lactation consultant, WIC services, staff registered dietician(s) and NFS program coordinator with coverage at all SIHB clinical sites.
  • Lead integration processes within our multi-disciplinary medical team to provide NUTRITION SERVICES.
  • Hire and supervise the NFS program coordinator related to menu and education development for the weekly Perinatal Lunch and NFS outreach activities.
  • Direct NFS activities in conjunction with Pediatric Saturday clinics.
  • Oversee the WIC Program Director  with administration of the WIC program, including planning, evaluation, and reporting activities.
  • Provide WIC clients with culturally-attuned nutritional care plans and nutrition education.
  • Ensure submission of reports for the HOPE Network to Public Health Seattle King County and Foundational Public Health Services Grant.
  • Participate in prenatal meetings as a team member providing nutrition assessment, care planning, diet and breastfeeding education to pregnant persons.
  • Support grant activity for grants related to Nutritional and Family Services.  Work with Grants and Data department to meet grant deliverables.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of policies and procedures pertaining to Nutrition and Family Services.
  • Provide nutritional support to Elder program with education, activities, and menu development.
  • Attend monthly DLT meetings as well as annual trainings and retreats as scheduled.
  • Participate in other meetings, committees, conferences, and trainings as related to job position and for maintenance of credentialing.
  • Identify and Develop culturally appropriate programs and patient education related to NFS activities.
  • Understand and maintain departmental budgets under direction of the Medical Director.
  • Accommodate and support a dietetic intern or other learner’s periodically.
  • Actively participate in internal quality improvement teams and work with members proactively to drive quality improvement initiatives in accordance with the mission and strategic goals of the organization, federal and state laws and regulations, and accreditation standards.
  • Work well under pressure, meet multiple and often competing deadlines
  • At all times demonstrate cooperative behavior with supervisors, direct reports, colleagues, relatives and the community.

Qualifications

Background Qualifications

Required:  Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, with at least 1-2 years experience in clinical nutrition. Experience in WIC services desired. 1-2 years of program management, supervisory experience and budget management required.

  • License:  Current Washington State Dietician Certification 
  • Preferred: 
    • Knowledge of WIC program state and federal requirements
    • Menu planning
    • Familiarity with the health and social issues facing the American Indian/Alaska Native population, and a desire to serve this community. 
    • Passion for perinatal health and improving outcomes of maternal-child health among AI/AN population

Work EnvironmentOffice setting.  SIHB operates on a 4/10s schedule. Specific work days are determined in conjunction with manager.  Occasional extended hours may be required.  Periodic work at expansion sites including Lake City, Pioneer Square, inpatient treatment facilities or community garden.  Attendance at outreach events as requested. Travel may be required.
