TITLE: Nursing Success Coach - Prelicensure
DEPARTMENT: College of Nursing

DLSE STATUS: Non-Exempt
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator for the ELM Song Brown Program, the Nursing Success Coach will act as the retention support specialist and will be responsible for providing supplemental learning for prelicensure students. The Nursing Success Coach will provide weekly small group and individual remediation to reinforce content taught in all prelicensure nursing didactic, skills lab, and clinical courses, both on-campus and online. This role will also work with faculty and student input to target areas of student need, including varying tutoring methods and instructional needs. The Nursing Success coach will motivate and empower nursing students to increase confidence and monitor progress throughout their nursing program. Using a holistic approach, the Nursing Success Coach will work with students by providing nursing-based workshops focused on study habits, test-taking skills, time management, and stress reduction to achieve academic success. This is a part-time position.
• Develop/revise policies related to academic success and remediation of students, in collaboration with the Leadership team
• Advises students across the nursing curricula on program outcomes
• Maintain confidential student files and records documenting all pertinent academic information within the University, upholding FERPA regulations.
• Respond to student concerns/problems and refer students to appropriate resources, including counseling services.
• Facilitates ongoing supplemental instruction sessions (review sessions, workshops, study seminars, review for NCLEX-RN) for nursing students.
• Serves as subject matter expert in nursing practicum process and responsible for information dissemination to advising team.
• Provide a trusting environment where students can share their thoughts, aspirations, concerns, and interests
• Provide students with the available resources to aid with their success here at the university
• Possess a thorough understanding of university policies, procedure, requirements, and effectively communicating them to students
• Availability to tutor after normal classroom hours (late afternoons, evenings, weekends).
• Ensures processes are in place to track, monitor and record student completion and/or program outcomes.
• Ensures and maintains a respectful and professional working environment using active learning, reflective thinking and confidential debriefing processes
• Provides retention and skills leadership and support for teaching faculty; serves as a mentor and facilitator for faculty assigned; and enables an environment which fosters creativity, responsiveness, and self-responsibility.
• Provides leadership in the development, implementation, and continuous quality improvement of the student success program.
• Participate in professional development and organizations in order to maintain an understanding of current ideas, research and practices, attends meetings, workshops and seminars to enrich personal growth, knowledge and skill in management development.
• Review and develop action plan based on student and faculty feedback for improvement of program
• Monitors and analyzes student attrition and retention data and works with other campus leaders to develop initiatives that can be implemented to improve retention and student success.
• Performs other duties as requested
• Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (or international equivalent) required. MSN or terminal degree preferred.
• Prior knowledge of academic policies and procedures preferred
• Experience in academic advising of nursing student population in higher education preferred
• Possess at least one year of clinical experience in a health professional setting.
• Must hold or be eligible to hold a clear and active registered nurse license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
• The ability to perform highly detailed work with sustained attention and care while providing/obtaining information on numerous inquiries is paramount to success in this position.

  • Hourly Rate Range: 43.26 per hour
