The NDT tech is required to set up, operate, and perform process controls of all NDT equipment and related support equipment. The NDT tech interprets indication(s) of discontinuities detected during nondestructive evaluations. The NDT tech records results of nondestructive evaluations on work orders, NDT reports, or other applicable documentation per customer requirements. Involved NDT disciplines include magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, eddy current, and ultrasonic.
Job Responsibilities
- Performs or directs nondestructive testing on aircraft, engines, and components using liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, eddy current, and ultrasonic.
- Performs all NDT functions at a minimum of Level II in disciplines for which certified.
- Assists the NDT Level III in establishing techniques, and interpreting codes, airworthiness directives, service bulletins, and maintenance manual requirements, and designating the particular test method and technique to be used.
- Interprets and evaluates NDT results in accordance with applicable criteria.
- Verifies the adequacy of procedures for each testing method and raises skill levels as needed.
- Maintains a thorough and current knowledge of NDT inspections and equipment and maintains the required NDT certifications.
- Maintains current knowledge of all applicable Industry Standards and Federal Regulatory requirements.
- Informs department leaders of problems and work status so that communications with the customers are timely and complete.
- Documents all work accomplished (a.k.a. sign-off) in a clear, concise, and accurate manner.
- Responsible for knowing, understanding, following, promoting, and continuously improving company policies and procedures.
- Observes all safety, environmental, and general housekeeping rules and policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned, which include assisting in training of all Level I technicians, trainees and task certified personnel.
Job Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be able to pass the certification process, written, specific and practical testing given by the NDT Level III, in each method being certified. Prior certification must be documented, in conjunction with OJT hours or attested from prior employer.
- Must have an A & P license.
- When required by the applicable Original Equipment Manufacturer, the technician must be able to attend factory school(s).
- Aviation training preferred, not required. This training may take the form of military training, aeronautical academy or technical school training, and/or an Aviation Associates Degree.
- Previous general aviation experience preferred.
- Must have proven mechanical and technical aptitude.
- Must have proven experience using a variety of hand and power tools.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills in order to give technical advice, work with personnel from other departments, and advise supervision on matters affecting the assigned work.
- Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
- Must have basic computer skills.
- Minimum of 18 years of age.
- Ability to pass background checks (criminal and motor vehicle), drug tests, receive and maintain issuance of an airport security badge, and be insurable by the company’s applicable insurance policies.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment.
The following functions may be performed in variable weather and environmental conditions including but not limited to jet engine fumes, dust or jet engine noise.
Must have ability to:
- Regularly walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, use hands to handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, communicate and listen.
- Frequently sit or be seated/stationary
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Read, write and fluently speak and understand the English language.
- Read and interpret safety rules, installation, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures.
- Write defect and repair statements.
- Perform simple math calculations and apply basic concepts of algebra and geometry.
