Construction Materials Testing Technician

S&ME is seeking individuals with a passion for Construction Materials Testing and the design of soil-supported structures. What You Will Do:

As an Aviation Construction Materials Testing Technician, you have a passion for aviation and share in our entrepreneurial spirit. You will have the opportunity to work on airport facilities, runways, hangars, and other related construction. Our aviation team provides full-service Construction Materials Testing, geotechnical, and environmental services to small and large airports across the southeast. Our team is focused on growth within the aviation marketplace. S&ME is a leader in the aviation market with more than 4 years of current booked work.

  • Reviewing plans and specifications in preparation for field observations on aviation-related construction sites
  • Documenting field activities, observations, and testing results on projects
  • Daily use of Metafield®, and/or other field and laboratory information management systems
  • Perform Quality Assurance services following applicable standards (FAA, DOT, ASTM, and/or AASHTO)
  • Communicating daily with management staff, general contractors, and clients

Who You Are:

  • High school diploma/GED
  • 2+ years of experience in Construction Materials Testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials or equivalent experience and an associate degree in a related field.
  • Proficiently complete data entry into multiple software applications on a smart device, using Microsoft Office and Outlook
  • Effective math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
  • One or More Active Certification(s) Required:
    • American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician; DOT Certifications in the fields of Aggregate, Conventional Density, Asphalt, and Concrete

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50 lbs. (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Traveling out-of-town (may include overnight) for assignments as necessary.
  • Working outside of normal business hours when necessary.
