The PFS Network Engineer will operate and maintain all networks & associated connected devices at all the primary operating field locations including the Continental US, Alaska, Greenland, and other temporarily connected field sites. This position requires discretion and judgement with excellent customer service skills. Often, this position will rely on remote technical support from colleagues, in other locations.
The Network Engineer will deploy to Summit Station, Greenland and will work alongside other Battelle ARO and PFS program team members and will report to the PFS IT&C Manager in Littleton, CO. All expenses are paid while in Greenland; lodging; meals; travel to and from Greenland.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Perform site surveys and determine suitability for deployment of specific networking technologies.
- Develop, test, and qualify network equipment for use in deployed or distant locations.
- Develop a lifecycle and spare strategy to manage an active inventory of devices.
- Development and sustainment of a configuration backup strategy. Including elements of preventative maintenance and firmware update schedules.
- Manage logistics to ensure equipment is safely transported to installation sites.
- Coordinate and document setup, installation & operation of the technologies from end to end
- Debug technologies with local and remote engineering teams
- Document and recommend design changes to support design developments.
- Write process instructions and train technicians to follow process steps.
- Develop, test, and qualify deployment equipment.
- Work with Vendors & suppliers to prioritize and solve procurement related issues.
- Ensure compliance with state, federal, and company environmental, health, and safety regulations and practices.
- Regularly engage with the Networking CCB, create, leverage, and document tickets that track changes to the networking infrastructure.
- Communicate closely with PFS and Battelle management. Maintain prompt, consistent, and positive customer relationships.
- Clearly document all procedures for maintaining Arctic systems, including build documentation, and troubleshooting guides.
- Provide continuous effort to improve operations, streamline processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service.
- Regular communication with multiple internal and external stakeholders is required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering or telecommunications field; or equivalent years of experience in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
- 5 years' experience in Network Engineering or a related field.
- Ability to execute independently in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work strategically and tactically.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Strong Microsoft Office suite skills.
- Finds enjoyment in fast paced ever changing and challenging situations.
- Possession of current and valid US passport.
- Covid-19 Vaccination with current booster.
- Must be able to work in possibly a stressful and cold environment.
- Must be willing and able to work varied schedules, up to 12+ hours per day, including split-shift, part-time, early mornings/evenings, and weekends.
