Position Summary
The Network Engineer handles the implementation of network services and technologies, responds to network change requests, and identifies optimal networking and communications solutions. The Network Engineer is responsible for testing and validating all firmware upgrades and new technology to verify the impact on existing hardware and customer Internet experience. The Network Engineer supports Tier 1 and 2 technicians as a training resource and serves as Tier 3 support on complicated issues. The Network Engineer often works on-site at customer locations, implementing a variety of Ethernet solutions while working with a team of co-workers and contractors.
The ideal candidate will be a seasoned Network Engineer who has at least 5 years of experience working with routing and switching, voice VoIP services, in-home WiFi solutions, GPON, and XGSPON technology and is available to travel throughout the service territory and surrounding areas. This candidate will also possess certifications from Junos to prove competency in the trade.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Primary Architect for new network additions and upgrades.
Fluent in GPON OLT Layer 2 network configuration and maintenance.
Interact with customers to understand client technical requirements and deploy optimal networking and connectivity solutions.
Prepare recommendations and supporting details of formal project proposals for network connectivity and configurations.
Coordinates and leads internal and external teams to understand network requirements and prepare network changes for implementation.
Regularly interact with telecom providers, equipment suppliers, and third-party network vendors to engage their technical resources to perform tasks.
Work closely with Field Technicians to support product and service deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Test all firmware for compatibility before implementation.
Technical mapping and design of IP network.
Support connectivity to dedicated access users and wholesale customers.
Maintain a high level of network security for the company and customers.
The position requires on-call support as well as scheduling and attendance for maintenance windows.
Communicate, manage, and implement technical solutions.
Perform all other duties as assigned or directed.
Will be subject to 24-hour call-out.
Has a thorough knowledge of all applicable safety regulations and can administer first aid, including artificial respiration. Able to instruct those they supervise in all phases of these items.
Will observe all safety rules and regulations as required.
Qualifications
Strong analytic, interpersonal, and communication skills (both written and oral), along with the ability to be intuitive and resourceful.
Strong understanding of the OSI Interconnect model and how it relates to the design and deployment of structured IP networks.
Must have proven ability to plan and organize work to meet deadlines, all with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
Must have strong analytical and critical thinking skills with demonstrated problem-solving abilities. A wide degree of creativity and flexibility is expected.
Ability to work autonomously or as a part of a distributed team.
Must possess a valid non-restricted Arkansas driver's license. Ability to travel regionally, up to 25% of the time.
Initiative and self-direction; can apply knowledge and make sound judgments to effectively resolve issues.
Strong knowledge of fiber optic networks including but not limited to light levels, wavelengths, loss, splitter loss, Mux, OTDR use
Understand fiber optic broadband via GPON, XGSPON, Active-E.
DHCP via IPV4 IPV6 and CGNAT
Strong knowledge of cyber security and network data protection
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or five years of related experience.
Must hold a JNCIP Juniper Certification in either Service Provider Routing and Switching, Enterprise Routing and Switching, or Security.
Utility Telecommunications or SCADA system experience preferred.
Experience with fiber optic networks.
Experience with wireless communication.
Operational level knowledge and experience with Windows and Linux Server Environments.
5+ years of experience with Routing and Switching REQUIRED. (Junos Preferred).
One to three years of experience required in coordination and implementation of technology projects (CAPM Preferred.)
VMWare configuration and support.

Working Conditions
Work is generally performed inside but site visits may be required in all types of weather. Position requires limited physical exertion and there are opportunities to relax from any physical exertion or to change positions in work activities. The employee may lift and/or move 5-40 pounds on a monthly basis. A person in this position must be available to work irregular hours and respond in emergency situations.
Training and Personal Characteristics
Must be able to perform the core elements of the position of Network Engineer competently, following a training period of not to exceed three (3) months. Must possess personal characteristics that will make the employee a productive work team member, including high integrity, good personal habits, and regular attendance at work. Should be friendly and able to meet people easily and adjust to different personalities. Should be able to gain and maintain respect for others, both inside and outside of the organization. Must be reliable and dependable.
