About this Role:

 

The NOC Support team is responsible for identifying and implementing improvements in process and automation for Windstream's Core NOC.  Team members help to facilitate changes for Windstream's Access, Ip, Transport, Power & Environments, and Voice technologies which are deployed in a national ISP network.  The successful candidate will be responsible for collaborating with NOC Teams to create meaningful and efficient automations which will define alarming thresholds, reduce ticket volume, and enrich tickets with data that improves the effectiveness of analysts.  When these automations do not perform as expected, the engineer will document the issue as they progress to a resolution.  It will also be that the candidate will provide guidance to newer team members in their development efforts as well.  Finally this team member will be responsible for training team members on existing automations for the purpose of troubleshooting and restoration in the event of catastrophic failures. 

 

Team members typically work during normal business hours but may be required to work with other shifts to better understand challenges they face, implement/validate new implementations, or resolve critical bugs. 

 

What You'll Do:

    Perform complex Software Engineering tasks (dependent on project needs) such as requirements review, design, documentation, development, testing and preparing for release.

    Involvement in life cycle of various projects. May design, author and/or review design documentation for projects. Analyzes solutions created by other engineers and provide feedback.

    Review requirement documents for feasibility of project as a whole. Participate in team design/code reviews.

    Based on project needs, interface with other groups and review impact to other applications and teams.

    Participate in team meetings to review status of projects. Troubleshoot and correct production issues.

    Collaborate and/or mentor other engineers and provide technical guidance relative to their projects as needed.

    Research new technologies to improve business processes and automations.

    Review software build and installation instructions.

    Other duties as assigned.

 

 

Required:

          Java/J2EE, PYTHON or PHP

          Oracle SQL, MariaDB, and PL/SQL (9i, 10g, 11g)

          Linux/UNIX scripting

          GWT or other JavaScript technologies

          SOAP or REST web services

          Application Integration/Enterprise Service Bus

          Zabbix

          Netcool

          OpenNMS

 

Preferred:

         Telecom billing / provisioning (RevChain / MetaSolv) 

         Experience with ISP Network environment

         Project management

         Data analysis

The starting compensation range for this job is $77,800 to $102,200 

Education and Experience: College degree in Engineering or a related field and 3-5 years professional level experience; or 7 years professional level related Engineering/Technical experience; or an equivalent combination of education and professional level related Engineering/Technical experience required.
