Job Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Library and Information Technology (LIT), the Network and Systems Administrator is responsible for applying technology and designing system architectures to align with the organizational strategic business objectives of the University Libraries (UL). This includes leveraging complex cloud-based services to address library system needs and demands. Areas of focus include technical operations, processes, and projects to install and support progressive computing, storage, network, and cloud platforms. In collaboration and consultation with LIT peers, Division of Information Technology (DoIT) staff, and with vendor representatives, this position researches system design, capabilities, limitations, and performance requirements. Proposes, designs, develops, and tests new technologies and ideas. Performs server patching to ensure library systems are both up-to-date and secure. Develops automation workflows that increase the efficiency of library personnel. Performs post-mortem problem investigations to identify and correct inconsistencies and problems with operating systems and application installations.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology Systems or related field and 2 years experience in computer operations or a related data processing field; or equivalency.
Preferred Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in information technology systems, computer science, or related field and 5 years experience in information technology systems or related area. Experience with Linux/UNIX LAMP including troubleshooting, tuning, upgrading, monitoring, and patching.
Experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting server hardware, software, and networking. Experience using Amazon Web Services (AWS) services and products, especially EC2, ECS, Lambda & IAM. Demonstrable knowledge of API functionality.
Knowledge of Ansible automation tool.
Operational knowledge of Linux and LAMP-based servers
Additional Comments
Experience in designing and implementing enterprise-level systems architectures. Demonstrated knowledge/skills of the IT industry, which includes multi-tiered architectures, enterprise applications, system virtualization, application containerization, cloud technologies and serverless workflows. Ability to evaluate emerging technologies, networks, local and wide area networking, firewalls, networking hardware, wireless technology, and Internet protocols (TCP/IP, NFS, SMB, etc.), data management systems and hardware systems. Strong planning and project management skills. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with clients, technical staff, management, vendors, and others. Knowledge of the principles and techniques of planning programs and work activities in a technical environment. Strong hands-on working experience with required technologies and advanced problem-solving skills. Ability to troubleshoot, analyze complex technical problems and provide appropriate solutions.
Ability to use scripting languages (e.g., PHP, Ruby, Python) for system administration functions and workflow automation.
Operational knowledge of:
