The City of Cedar Park is currently seeking an experienced Network Administrator The Network Administrator will focus on the acquisition of technology assets and manages the process of retirement and replacement of the City's IT infrastructure. He/she will be responsible for the daily operation of all Local Area Networks, and Wide Area Networks including the City's hardware, software operating systems, wireless technologies, edge security devices, applications, and end-user support.
The Position
- Develops and implements standards and guidelines for managing technology assets;
- Maintains the backup and recovery of the city's network infrastructure in accordance with the IT disaster recovery plan;
- Researches latest technologies on the market including network capacity and security designs based on specific project needs and/or general department guidelines for high-performing, reliable service, ensuring acquisition of hardware and software most beneficial to the City;
- Manages and coordinates the procurement and acquisition process for obtaining technology assets, developing technical specifications for such acquisitions;
- Designs and maintains the citywide switching and routing infrastructure, including network services, in-building wiring plans, installations, upgrades and end-user support;
- Evaluates new and existing technologies and makes recommendations to enhance efficiencies and effectiveness;
- Performs network equipment and software maintenance in a competent and timely manner;
- Maintains accurate and current inventory of all City IT infrastructure;
- Maintains accurate and current port maps for all core, distribution and edge devices;
- Designs and updates network diagrams in a clear and concise fashion;
- Provides 24 hour on-call service as needed for emergency situations;
- And, completes other related tasks as assigned.
Acceptable Experience, Training, Certifications and Licenses
A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field plus five (5) years of increasingly responsible network configuration design and problem resolution.
Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Texas Driver's License
- Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA)
- Cisco Certified Network Professional Certification (CCNP) or ability to obtain certification within one (1) year from date of hire
