This Opportunity

We are currently looking for qualified candidates to fill positions as an MV Electrician in Iraq. Note that this position is contingent upon award of contract.

Your Impact
  • Serve under the direction of the Project Manager and Site Manager to construct, install, operate, and maintain all low and medium voltage distribution networks and power plant electrical equipment, electrical distribution equipment, and train other electricians/apprentices.
  • Perform routine installation, maintenance, and repairs on electric power control equipment, distribution lines, distribution panels, transfer-switches, substations, or electric-generating equipment in accordance with BS 7671, NEC, and local host nation and installation codes.
  • Promote and maintain safety following established safe work practices and procedures.
  • Assist the lead electrician in the location and rectification of faults on the underground medium voltage networks during power interruptions.
  • Assist electrical teams or line crews to perform routine installation, maintenance, and repairs on high voltage switchgear, distribution networks, diesel power generators, or other electrical equipment as directed.
  • Work on power cables, transformers, insulators, and control equipment such as switches, circuit breakers, and panels, including collecting transformer oil samples that are tested for contamination and cleaning up contaminated sites.
  • Install and connect transformers and make hot taps and splices.
  • Install underground cable, conduit, and ductwork.
  • Install transformers, string lights and power wires on cross arms and through ducts and manholes as necessary, make electrical connections, and splice cables.
  • Perform rigging on high voltage motors, transformers, and compressors.
  • Use and maintain various hand and power tools of the trade.
  • Assist in the operation of aerial trucks and associated equipment.
  • Inform the Project Manager and Site Manager of the location of a failure, possible cause, and repairs required on the distribution network.
  • Ensure correct testing and isolation procedures are followed before working on de-energized electrical networks or associated systems.
  • Execute the company’s policy and procedure for proper and efficient operation of the power plants and distribution network.
  • Abide by and adhere to all requirements in General Order #1 in conformity with US military standards and practices, in addition to all host nation and installation rules and regulations.
  • Install specified new or reconditioned parts, make required adjustments, and reassemble complete unit.
  • Transport and properly dispose of hazardous materials to HAZMAT collection point.
  • Move materials and equipment to work locations and execute the assigned work.
  • Complete records, maintain tools and equipment, and perform various clean-up and housekeeping activities.
  • Observe and follow all safety rules and procedures, including wearing required personal safety equipment and ensuring safety procedures are always followed by all employees.
  • Promote teamwork and actively participate in quality improvement process.
  • Promote safety awareness and complies with all applicable safety procedures and regulations and perform other duties and activities as directed.
  • Respond to emergency calls regarding power generation equipment breakdowns and unit outages.
  • Perform other duties as determined.
Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Must have experience in the installation, operation, and maintenance of low and medium voltage distribution networks and associated hardware and switchgear.
  • Experienced working in international work environments in an expatriate or military status
  • Proactive nature and strong interpersonal skills in collaborating, communicating, and working with other senior managers and staff (to include offsite management team), local and international subcontractors, US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) military representatives, and local officials as required.
  • Ability to interpret and apply required corrective action with data readings and results of equipment checks to identify equipment or process problems and take appropriate responses to correct or resolve problems.
  • Experience in installing and maintaining medium voltage electrical distribution networks.
  • Education: A high school diploma or GED plus related technical training, or equivalent.
  • License: Must possess and provide an electrical trade license or formalized completion of training.
  • Valid drivers’ license from home of record.
  • Must provide copies of training certificates.
  • Knowledge and experience regarding occupational hazards for electrical and mechanical trades, related safety practices, and skill required for the installation, maintenance, and repair of power generator systems and equipment.
  • Must know Lockout/Tagout Procedures.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience in providing prime power O&M services to clients.
  • Experience in fault finding and rectifying in underground and overhead distribution networks.
  • Experience with synchronized diesel power generators.
  • Experience working with and training teams from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Prior work experience with US military clients and experience living/working in CENTCOM AOR would be an advantage.

Years of experience:

  • 5 years working as a licensed electrician, with a minimum of 2 years working with medium voltage networks.

Level of English required:

  • Fluent

Working Environment

  • Duties will involve work in the outdoors with a potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions including frequent dust storms, and high temperatures up to 55 degrees Celsius (130 degrees Fahrenheit) in the summer months.
  • Must be able to work overhead with arms raised for extended periods.
  • Scheduled work hours up to 70 hours per week.
