WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE JOB:
The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization dedicated to alleviating human suffering in the face of emergencies. We are currently seeking a talented and motivated individual to join our team as a Multicultural Communications Specialist, reporting to the Multicultural Communications Manager within the Communications Department This role plays a crucial part in enhancing our multicultural outreach efforts and fostering a diverse and inclusive community.
As a Multicultural Communications Specialist, you will be responsible for developing and implementing a robust volunteer recruitment strategy for the Multicultural Communications team. You will collaborate closely with the Volunteer Services division to recruit and engage a diverse group of volunteers, ensuring that our team reflects the diversity of our community. In addition, this specialist may support a variety of communications needs including strategy development, translation and proofreading support, public relations, storytelling production support, and more as part of our holistic Multicultural Communications efforts within the Red Cross.
*Bilingual candidates (Spanish/English) required for this role*
The work location for this exciting opportunity is virtual. The selected candidate will work 100% remotely from home and can be located anywhere in the United States with a preference to work East Coast hours.
WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE FOR GOOD (Key Responsibilities):
  • Recruitment Strategy: Partner with the Volunteer Services division to design and execute a comprehensive volunteer recruitment strategy that targets diverse communities and recruits individuals with varying cultural backgrounds.
  • Volunteer Lifecycle Management: Oversee the end-to-end volunteer management process, including recruitment, onboarding, assignment, and ongoing engagement. Ensure a positive and inclusive experience for all Multicultural Communications volunteers.
  • Translator/Proofreader Backup: Act as a backup for translation and proofreading tasks, providing language support when needed to enhance communication across multicultural teams.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Multicultural Communications manager to manage the Translator Hub
volunteers effectively, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment.
  • Community Engagement: Cultivate innovative tactics to actively connect with diverse communities, fostering meaningful relationships that align with our organization's mission and values. This strategic approach aims to recruit and enlist volunteers whose unique backgrounds enrich the Multicultural Communications department.
  • General Communications Support: Provide communications support as needed for various initiatives and efforts in alignment with organizational priorities.

Scope: Individual contributor that works under limited supervision. Apply subject matter knowledge. Capacity to understand specific needs or requirements to apply skills/knowledge.
Qualified candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. The American Red Cross does not sponsor employment visas.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (required/minimum qualifications):
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Multicultural Studies, Translation or a related field.
  • 1-3 years’ experience in communications, multicultural studies &/or translation.
  • Proven experience in volunteer recruitment, management, and engagement.
  • Strong understanding of multicultural communication strategies and cultural competency.
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish language with a focus on translation and proofreading.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a dynamic environment.
  • Familiarity with community engagement initiatives and multicultural outreach.

  • Combination of candidate’s education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to description’s minimum education and general experience years combined (Management experience cannot be substituted).

PAY INFORMATION:
The starting annual salary range for this position is $53K - $60K. We do not offer an annual bonus for this role.
Note that American Red Cross salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. Other factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. **We will review specific salary information at the time of phone screening based upon your location & experience.**
This job will be posted for a minimum of five business days and extended if the applicant pool needs to be expanded.
