Job Summary:

The Department of University Police and Public Safety at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Motor Vehicle Operator. The successful candidate will:

• Map routes, itineraries, and points of call.
• Move or carry cargo onto, into, off of, or out of the vehicle operated.
• Move or carry cargo from the vehicle to the delivery or storage point.
• Post manifests, inventories, and other records of goods and people transported.
• Change oil and spark plugs.
• Change tires and washes vehicles.
• Pump gas and adds water to radiator, oil to crankcase, and air to the tires.
• Replace lamp bulbs.
• Operate and maintain motorized equipment in support of maintenance, grounds or building trades crews. 

Required Qualifications:

• New York State Driver's License appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
• May be required to possess a CDL Class A, B, C or General Class D License.
• Knowledge of the Vehicle and Traffic Law as it applies to the safe and legal operation of vehicles operated.
• Knowledge of the nature of cargo carried and any special handling required.
• Knowledge of simple automotive repair and maintenance procedures.
• Ability to physically operate assigned vehicles as required.
• Ability to lift and carry crates, cartons, boxes, and other cargo onto and off of transport vehicles.
