Job Title:

Monitor Technician

Reports To:

4 South Unit Manager

Position Overview:

Monitor technicians primarily monitor cardiac rhythms of all patients on telemetry monitoring while also supporting the department in all areas, as necessary. The Monitor Technician greets the interdisciplinary team, guests, and phone calls positively and directs them in a professional but timely manner. The Monitor Technician completes tasks in an organized and efficient way and demonstrates flexibly while effectively providing Person Centered care and services.

What You'll Do:

  • Cardiac monitoring: Successfully admits, monitors, recognizes, and reports electrocardiographic abnormalities, and discharges patients from telemetry monitoring system. Maintains log of patient rhythms, alarms, and telemetry equipment. Must demonstrate and maintain EKG interpretation competency. Works with the interdisciplinary team to review cardiac rhythm history and events. Responds to clinical, and safety alarms. Acts as a resource to other unit staff with, but not limited to, cardiac telemetry monitoring equipment. Assists in patient care as needed and assigned.
  • Unit Support: Maintains confidentially. Accurate and timely ordering and maintenance of supplies. Displays commitment to the mission of the hospital and its values. Is flexible in assuming other appropriate responsibilities not otherwise noted. Demonstrates initiative in keeping unit clean, organized and clutter free. Plans for care of patients, demonstrating the ability to effectively prioritize both expected and unanticipated needs. Involves patients and families in establishing care goals.
  • Information Management: Ability to maintain and retrieve computer and central monitor files. Assists in making and correlating paperwork as needed for the unit. Data collected and tabulated accurately. Ability to fully utilize PC platform. Keeps files maintained and organized, both physically and electronically.
  • Community Interaction: Honest, calm, reliable, compassionate, and caring to patients and coworkers. Demonstrates integrity at all times. Ensures a positive influence on morale and emotional maturity. Supports staff in welcoming new employees for orientation. Acts as a resource for the interdisciplinary team. Professionally answers and routes calls as needed.
  • Safety: Monitors for, and reports safety issues. Entering work orders as needed. Respond to safety alarms. Complete PI duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma
  • Certification: BLS, provided if needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in EKG interpretation, patient care and/or medical terminology is preferred, but not required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., typing, use of computer and keyboard).
  • May require light lifting and carrying, including boxes, equipment, stooping and kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves, and to file documents in lower file drawers).
  • Sitting for long periods of time.

  • Onsite at Cayuga Medical Center
