Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Clinical Director, the Mental Health Therapist is responsible for providing standardized counseling, psychotherapy and talk therapy for individuals, couples and family's with mild to moderate Mental Health conditions. The Therapist will work to address clients mental and behavioral needs by evaluating the client’s condition, developing comprehensive Mental Health care plans, assessing the need for hospitalization, or advanced psychiatric assessment and treatment. The Mental Health Therapist will work independently and with supervision to execute treatment by selecting methods and techniques; resolve problems using evidence-based approaches; exercise judgment; and ensure that all clinical documentation deadlines are met.
Position Responsibilities:
· Receive referrals from TIOMHC’s Clinical Director and Administrative team.
· Assess the mental and behavioral health status of referred clients.
· Provide counseling/psychotherapy/talk therapy to clients utilizing professional counseling standards.
· Formulate differential diagnoses of mild to moderate Mental Health conditions.
· Formulate short-term and long-term counseling plans for client care.
· Consult with Clinical Director and multidisciplinary team members regarding complex case management.
· Identify clients with urgent Mental Health conditions (e.g. psychosis, suicidal or homicidal thoughts, etc.) and make appropriate referrals to emergency or psychiatric treatment facilities.
· Maintain records of counseling sessions, assessments, interventions and recommendations, adhering to all requirements for clinical record keeping.
· Provide group and family therapy sessions, as directed.
· Attend all requests for in-service training.
· Participate in team management approaches to client care/treatment.
· Maintain an understanding of behavioral and Mental Health priorities, as directed under federal/state/local regulations and guidelines.
· Consult with colleagues and specialists to review and participate in the care of clients receiving Mental Health services.
· Maintain quality care by participation in peer review, policy development, and quality improvement initiatives and activities.
· Interact effectively and professionally with persons from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, education, racial, ethnic and professional backgrounds.
· Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA compliance guidelines
· Utilize electronic systems to manage client files, maintain appropriate clinical documentation, record counseling services, schedule appointments, and store client-related information.
· Ensure accurate and consistent use of agency forms for client contracts to ensure the accuracy of billing third party resources.
· Maintain professional knowledge and proficiency through continuing education, staff meetings, training workshops and other appropriate learning activities.
The Clinical Director will provide general instructions, direct supervision and guidance, as needed.
Position Qualifications:
· 2 years of supervisory experience in related management fields.
· Demonstrate skills providing professional counseling, in accordance with standards of care;
· Ability to successfully organize assignment workload and prioritize meeting agency deadlines;
· In collaboration with the Clinical Director (members of the clinical team, other colleagues) and the client, evaluate client conditions to formulate/implement an individualized comprehensive client-centered treatment plan.
· Work to ensure that clients are provided appropriate interventions based on their ability to participate, cultural concerns, and diagnostic impressions.
· Interact professionally and competently with persons from diverse backgrounds; including but not limited to cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial, ethnicity, and religion;
· Successfully refer clients to specialists and other community resources as appropriate.
· Work effectively with managers, administrators, co-workers, members of the public and other professionals;
· Communicate clearly, concisely, politely and empathically with others (internally and externally) via telephone, email, text and in person;
· Proficient customer service; maintaining an open dialogue, keeping the client informed at all times.
· Ensure that all clients’ rights are protected;
· Function independently, and exercise sound judgment and initiative;
· Adhere to TIOMHC’s clinical practice guidelines and exemplify its mission, vision, and the guiding principles of the agency;
· Consistently maintain ethical behaviors in accordance with established standards;
· Adhere to all NYS-regulated COVID-19 standards and protocols to ensure safety and sanitation.
· Computer literacy with the ability to enter and maintain information, compile reports and data in the agencies varied electronic systems;
· Proficiently read, write and speak English.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling, Marriage & Family Therapy, Clinical Social Work, Pastoral Counseling or an advanced degree in a closely related field of study
· 2 years of supervisory experience in related management fields.
· Must possess current NYS licensure:
1. Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)
2. Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
3. Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) Academic Clinical Track only; or
4. Limited Permit, as authorized by the NYS Office of Professions
· Must meet NYS counseling credentialing requirements for Limited Permit at the time of employment or completed a CACREP or ASWB Accredited Master’s Degree Program
· Must maintain NYS counseling credentialing requirements or NYS social work requirements throughout the duration of employment.
Salary:
· $25 – $45 per hour
