Job Description
Acts as the central point of communication among doctors, patients, and other team members of the health care team. The Medical Receptionist’s main responsibility is to provide excellent secretarial and reception services to the doctors, patients, and staff in a supportive manner. The secretarial duties require electronically filing documents, recording and distributing them efficiently and promptly, handling enquiries efficiently and promptly.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintaining office supplies and forms necessary to carry out front desk activities.
- Scheduling/rescheduling appointments for patients in accordance with established procedures.
- Answering the telephone calls in a professional and courteous manner with minimal rings.
- Liaising with patients, providers, outside health care professionals, and family members in a kind and compassionate manner.
- Ability to electronically confirm patient’s medical coverage through usage of Horizon’s Electronic Health Record (EHR) application (eclinicalworks)
- Receiving patients in a polite and courteous manner, monitoring the patient’s flow into the treatment and consulting rooms.
- Receiving and conveying messages in writing, electronically, and verbally.
- Making appointments, providing receipt of money, and processing end of day billing.
- Proactively working on any non-office hour scheduling/rescheduling during non-office hours.
- Monitoring the office stationary, envelopes, folders, and placing orders and/or preparing folders as needed.
- Scanning, filing and faxing documents and preparing for mail out as needed.
- Contributing equitably in the maintenance of cleanliness of the medical practice.
- Ensuring the waiting and reception areas are kept neat and clean.
Skills and Specifications:
- Ability to communicate well in a compassionate and supportive manner with individuals of all backgrounds.
- Excellent telephone etiquette and keyboarding skills.
- Ability to work efficiently and accurately.
- Should have applicable computer knowledge (EHR)
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
Education and Qualifications
- High school diploma or degree in medical field from an accredited institution.
- Experience with eClinicalworks EHR and vascular surgery environment is an advantage.
