JOB TITLE:             Medical Office Assistant Instructor
DEPARTMENT:       Adult Education

THIS IS A CONTRACTED POSITION.
SUMMARY
Instructor will teach courses in the Medical Office Assistant program instructing adult learners on basic Medical Office procedures, medical terminology and billing, introduction to anatomy and body functions and systems, and basic assistant nursing skills. Instructor will teach two-15 week semesters during the school year.  Evening hours 2-3 days a week Monday-Thursdays between 4:00 pm and 9:00 pm. Specific class meeting days and times will be determined after the successful candidate is chosen. Hourly rate will be determined based on certifications and experience.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
  • Instruct adult learners in medical terminology and language used in the profession.  Includes basic Medical Office procedures, introduction to anatomy and body functions and systems, also include basic assistant nursing skills, including but not limited to vital signs, injections, blood draws, preparing patients for exams, ultrasounds, EKGs, lab tests, maintenance of treatment room, and the ordering, storing, and disposal of medical supplies.
  • Create a learning environment conducive to student success by using a variety of instructional teaching methods to meet the needs of the students.
  • Provide support and encouragement to adult learners.
  • Complete and submit attendance records after each class session.
  • Complete and submit grades by the required deadline.
  • Participate in the graduation ceremony annually, optional.
  • Attend required instructor meetings.
  • Abide by the information contained in the Instructional Handbook.
  • Be present in buildings with regular and continued attendance and punctuality.
  • Follow all Board Policies, Staff Handbook and Adminitrative Guidelines.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:   To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Licensed Practical Nurse, or Registered Nurse; Teaching experience and at least three years of experience in a related field and experience working with non-traditional student populations, preferred.
 
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Current LPN and/or RN State of Michigan license, in good standing and a valid driver's license required.
 
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
 
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
 
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear and operate a computer. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, such as filing boxes. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and depth perception.
