SalaryLab Works, an independent laboratory in Homewood, AL is seeking a Specimen Processor for NIGHT SHIFT/WEEKENDS.
Specimen Processors are responsible for receiving, labeling, processing, storing, and distributing specimens in line with set policies, procedures, and professional standards. They work under general supervision. This job requires entering information about patients and orders from paper or internet requisitions into our Laboratory Information System. In addition to marking and sorting specimens as needed, this job will also include getting samples ready for analysis. Perfect candidates will be meticulous individuals who know how to use computers. Data privacy concepts must be known. MUST BE ABLE TO WORK NIGHTS AND WEEKENDS.
Job Responsibilities
- Transfer data from paper formats into computer files or database systems using keyboards, or optical scanners
- Responsible for the receipt, labeling, processing, storage, and delivery of specimens.
- Demonstrate knowledge of operational policies and procedures
- Performs Microbiology duties assigned, including Micro specimen processing, slide preparation and staining, culture setups, and any other laboratory assistant duties
- Ability to identify, process and prepare specimens, maintaining proper specimen identification and sample integrity, for testing in the various laboratory sections.
- Properly analyzes and then registers patients recording demographic, insurance/financial, and clinical data into order entry system ensuring accuracy necessary for proper registration, billing, and test requisition.
Requirements
- Must be able to Work the set schedule and nights
- Strong data entry and organizational skills
- Excellent knowledge of word processing tools (MS Office Word, Excel etc.)
- Medical office/lab/specimen handling experience preferred
- Experience working in a team environment
- High level of attention to detail
- Strong reading, writing, communication and analytical skills
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to learn and apply requirements in clinical specimen collection and processing.
- Demonstrate ability to meet all tasks outlined.

Schedule:
- Sunday-Thursday 11:00 pm- 7:30 am
- Friday-Tuesday 11:00 pm - 7:30 am
