Position Summary: As part of the Ob Hospitalist Group (OBHG) clinical leadership team, a Medical Director of Operations embraces a focus on clinical operations: (1) Clinical Leadership, (2) Hospital Relationships, (3) New Program Starts, (4) Clinical Strategic Leadership, and (5) Business Development Support. This position reports to the Vice President, Clinical Operations and will collaborate with Vice President, Clinical Operations to ensure the clinical teams are delivering quality programs that achieve both OBHG’s and the hospital’s clinical and operational objectives.
The MDO position is full time, exempt. The MDO is expected to work at least three (3) but no more than five (5) OBHG hospitalist shifts each month during their employment as MDO. The number of shifts per month will be determined in consultation with the Vice President, Clinical Operations and may be reduced depending upon the number of programs managed. The MDO is also expected to travel as needed to address hospital and hospitalist operational priorities.
The MDO will be required to manage multiple programs, the specific number to be determined by the Vice President, Clinical Operations and will be based upon the geographic location, hospital complexity, OBHG needs, and overall time-requirements of the individual programs. The number of programs will fluctuate from time-to-time as the clinical operations team grows and the company expands its portfolio of programs.

Clinical Leadership
- Oversee the delivery of clinical services at all assigned client hospitals
- Ensure consistent performance of clinical services in accordance with program definition and the “OBHG Way”
- Evaluate programs to ensure that the “OBHG Way” is being delivered and work to correct any deficiencies
- Supervise, coach, advise, and support Site Directors of Ob Hospitalists and Market Medical Directors
- Develop Site Directors into independent clinical leaders for their assigned program(s)
- Ensure Site Directors are trained and capable of performing Clinical Interviews for their program(s)
- Perform at least quarterly check in’s with assigned Site Directors
- Communicate and enforce clinical policies, procedures, and expectations at all assigned programs
- Manage clinician issues in collaboration with the Site Director, Market Medical Director where applicable and HR Business Partner. Escalate to Vice President, Clinical Operations as appropriate
- Collaborate with Site Directors, Scheduling team and operations team to ensure 100% schedule coverage at all hospitals
- Provide written and verbal status updates on assigned client hospitals
- Participate in peer reviews or investigation of clinical incidents as requested
- Encourage and ensure hospitalist participation in overall quality initiatives
- Assist in the enforcement of hospitalist training requirements
- Serve as a liaison between OBHG support teams and our hospitalists
- Serve as needed on the Patient Advocacy Committee to interview a Clinician involved in an alleged patient complaint and report findings to the committee and participate in adjudication of the event.
Hospital Relationship Management
- Collaborate in partnership with OBHG Director of Operations (DO) to ensure all clinical aspects of the program are being handled in a consistent, timely, and responsive manner
- Communicate regularly with hospital’s clinical leadership (CMO, Chief OB, Director of Women’s), building a strong rapport and fostering a strong relationship on behalf of OBHG
- Reinforce the clinical aspects of OBHG value proposition at hospitals
- Participate in hospital meetings as appropriate to address program concerns, questions, opportunities
- Ensure clinical services are meeting hospital objectives and expectations
- Participate in program performance reviews
New Program Starts
- Collaborate in partnership with OBHG DOOs to ensure all clinical aspects of new programs are being handled in a consistent, timely, and responsive manner
- Participate in new-program meetings (on-site and/or remote) to address clinical aspects of the new program as well as building a strong rapport and fostering a new relationship
- Conduct clinical interviews for your new team and complete required HR documentation
- Ensure that a qualified Site Director is selected and trained for the new program
- Train newly identified Site Directors in their role and provide ongoing support and coaching
- Participate in on-site hospital interviews for your new team as available
- Perform or oversee the completion of the OBHG Orientation and ensure orientation coverage for first two days of the new program
Clinical Strategic Leadership
- Collaborate with, CCO, SVPCO, Vice President, Clinical Operations, and other MDOs to discuss, define, and implement clinical operating policies, procedures, and standards
- Serve on OBHG clinical panels or focus groups as reasonably requested and available
- Participate as a representative of the OBHG clinical leadership team in regional and national conferences from time-to-time as reasonably requested and available
- Collaborate with corporate OBHG teams to provide feedback on clinical questions
- Other duties as assigned
Business Development Support
- Collaborate with Business Development for assigned region
- Provide support for Business Development meetings as requested and as reasonably available
- Provide Clinical Leadership for meetings with potential new clients either in person or remotely
- Provide Clinical Leadership to ensure a smooth transition from the sales process to operations
Essential Skills/Credentials/Experience/Education
- Minimum of one year of hospitalist experience
- Board Certified Ob/Gyn Physician
- Highly relational, able to build strong rapport and positive working relationship with all stakeholders (Hospital leadership, hospitalist teams, nurses, staff physicians, and OBHG corporate staff)
- Team oriented, service minded, goal focused individual who believes in OBHG mission
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proven leadership skills
- Able to travel as needed
Preferred Skills/Credentials/Experience/Education
- Served in a hospital-based leadership capacity (e.g. Chief OB, Department Chair, etc)
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook
