Job Summary:
The Abstractive Health team is currently building and designing our clinical document improvement (CDI) nudges into our summarization software for Emergency Medicine physicians. We are looking for a talented Emergency Medicine medical coder that has deep industry knowledge of the recent Evaluation & Management (E&M) CPT code changes in 2023. Our software, in real time, will nudge a physician on how to optimize their clinical notes to best account for all of the factors relevant to their medical decision making such as the complexities of the problems addressed, risks of complications and morbidity, and diagnoses or treatments impacted by social determinants of health. You will be instrumental in designing our solution that is reducing clinician burnout in the US.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in determining the AI logic for our CDI nudges specific for Emergency Medicine summary notes related to Evaluation & Management (E&M) CPT service 99211 - 99215.
  • Work through an excel spreadsheet with one column representing examples of how a physician commonly documents, another column representing how a physician could ideally document to optimize for the robustness of the care they performed, and then a third column recommending advice/notes to help the engineering team with formulating the difference between that logic for the AI system.
  • Provide recommendations and advice on improving the user experience for physicians for the CDI nudges workflow.
  • Attend a 30 minute weekly meeting with Emergency Medicine physicians, AI engineers, and business operational stakeholders to work through any project based questions.
  • Advise the operational team on expanding the CDI nudges logic, when appropriate, to outpatient primary care E&M CPT codes.
Requirements:
  • CPC (AAPC) or CCS-P (AHIMA)
  • Bachelor of Arts or Science
  • 5+ years experience as a Senior Billing and Coding Specialist

Exceptional candidates possess these additional skills and experiences:
  • Educational specialization in Health Information Management, RHIT & RHIA Degree Programs, or a related field
  • Experience as an Operations Director/Manager of Medical Coding at an Academic Medical Center
  • Compliance and regulatory experience in medical coder
  • Digital health tech startup experience
Compensation:
$75.00 / hour. Estimated at 3 to 5 hours a week for 5 months.
