Overview
**This position is remote. Applicants must reside in California.**
Schedule: Monday-Friday 7AM to 3:30PM
Purpose Statement/Position Summary: The Coding Team is responsible for the coding of Outpatient (Clinic) and Emergency Room Accounts to include the review of charges and to review any NCCI edits. The Medical Coder, Outpatient provides coding and pre-defined abstracting services following mandated Federal and State Regulations, The Joint Commission, CHLA Medical Staff Rules and Regulations, Division specific coding guidelines, and hospital policies and procedures. Participates in providing quality coded data for outcomes, peer review, reimbursement, research, marketing and development. Performs as a mentor to non-credentialed coding staff.
Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience: 2+ years as a Medical Coder, preferably with Pediatric Coding experience and/or coding experience in a large teaching hospital. Demonstrated proficiency in ICD 10 / CPT assignments. Codes outpatient and ER accounts using ICD 10 and CPT Coding required. Knowledge of official Coding Guidelines required. Able to read physician documentation - especially if it is handwritten highly preferred. Experience with Cerner or other EMR system and 3M HDM highly preferred. Review of Charges - including NCCI Edits highly preferred.
Education/Licensure/Certification: High School Diploma, GED or equivalent. CCS or CPC credential and CEUs to maintain required.
Pay Scale Information
$49,504.00-$85,394.00

Final determination of a successful candidate's starting pay will vary based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to education and experience within the job or the industry. The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description. Additional pay may be determined for those candidates that exceed these specified qualifications and requirements.
