Medical Billing Specialist

Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze medical records and patient information to ensure accurate billing
- Assign appropriate medical codes (ICD-10, ICD-9, etc.) to diagnoses and procedures
- Submit claims to insurance companies and follow up on unpaid or denied claims
- Process payments from insurance companies and patients
- Maintain patient billing records and update information as necessary
- Communicate with healthcare providers and insurance companies regarding billing inquiries or disputes
- Stay up-to-date on changes in medical coding and billing regulations
- Assess high risk quality cases to accurately trigger pre-bill coding review process
- Validate and initiate correction on patient status, admit and discharge dates and discharge disposition for calculation of correct reimbursement
- Collaborate with Application Specialist to improve coding and documentation
- Demonstrate and maintain adequate productivity and coding quality metrics as outlined in job description
- Demonstrate and maintain coding proficiency by staying abreast of coding guidelines as published CMS
- Demonstrate timely completion of all training and education.

Requirements:
- Previous experience working in a medical office or healthcare setting
- Strong knowledge of Medical Billing processes, including coding and collection practices
- Familiarity with medical terminology and procedures
- Proficiency in using Medical Billing software systems - specifically Azalea Healthcare System
- Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record keeping
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients, insurance companies, and healthcare providers
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively
