Job Title: Medical Billing Generalist
General summary of duties: A medical billing generalist is responsible to work on patient accounts to collect outstanding balances, primarily from patients. Includes preparing, submitting and following up on medical claims to insurance companies. They generate revenue by collecting, monitoring and pursuing delinquent account from patient and insurance companies.
Position reports to: Office Supervisor/Billing Supervisor
Job qualifications: Education/training: High school diploma, billing/coder courses, or certified coder. Fully vaccinated for COVID-19 required with proof of vaccination at time of employment.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in the field or in a related area
Skills: Ability to communicate and deal effectively under a fast-paced environment
Duties and responsibilities:
· Knowledge of medical terminology as it applies to billing
· Knowledge of how HMO/PPO plans
· Knowledge of how to verify Insurance and benefits
· Review and transmit claims electronically
· Follow up with Insurance payers for unpaid/denied claims
· Collect copay and deductibles
· Set up payment plans
· Post insurance payments
· Ability to answer billing questions for patients
· Liaison between patient and insurance companies
· Obtain and update demographic and insurance information
· Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding
· Verifying and posting daily charges
· Knowledge of HIPPA
· Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job
· Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within medical field
Work environment:
The work of this position is performed in an environmentally controlled office environment. The position requires the ability to work under pressure and with a diverse population, including staff, clients, patients, insurance companies, and other members of the public on a regular basis. The position may cause frequent exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a clinical environment.

multi-line phone systems, appointment scheduling, and message taking. EMR experience a must, eCW preferred.

Prior multi-physician practice experience is desirable.
