Position Summary:
Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Medical Assistant - Boca Raton, FL.
This position involves providing paraprofessional health care to patients under the guidance of a professional health care provider.
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Checks patients in and out and obtains pertinent medical information during check-in and assists health care provider in delivering care.
- Takes vital signs; and notifies health care provider of patient condition.
- Assists in examinations and treatments.
- May perform basic laboratory testing.
- May receive supply of ordered medications and record and restock medication inventories.
- Mixes or assembles drugs for administration to patient.
- Maintains medical records.
- Administers vaccinations.
- Screens patients to obtain health information and symptoms, reviews medical record for completeness, measures vital signs and documents findings in EHR, and administers immunizations.
- Assists clinicians with all aspects of the clinical care encounter, including, but not limited to; assisting with examinations, screenings, and minor procedures, preparing exam room, ensuring that all instruments and supplies are present, facilitating patient testing orders, assisting with collecting laboratory specimens, performing laboratory testing as required, processing lab and testing results, maintains adequate supplies in exam/treatment rooms, cleans instruments and prepares for sterilization.
- Answers patient inquiries providing routine information and routing calls to clinicians when necessary.
- Orders medical supplies as well as helps run influenza clinics, under the supervision of the nurse manager.
- Contacts patients to relay lab results when appropriate, and follows up with patients to see how they are doing after their visit to SHS.
- Participates in SHS health and wellness outreach programs to promote student health services.
- Attends staff meetings, participates in educational activities and in-services, fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
A High School Diploma and 3 years of appropriate experience required.
Certification as a Medical Assistant for the State of Florida required.
Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations, and university policies, procedures, principles, and practices - Knowledge of the ACHA Standards of Practice for Health Promotion in Higher Education preferred.
Knowledge of current nutrition and dietary principles and practices preferred.
Salary:
$17.50 - $18.50 per hour.
