Job Description Summary
The Medical Assistant- Non-Certified assists in examination and treatment of patients under direct supervision of healthcare providers, RNs and leads in the clinics. Medical Assistant- Non-Certified contributes to various aspects of patient care ensuring patient satisfaction. They are cross-trained in all areas of the clinics. They work as a team to assist the providers in clinics with multiple tasks as well as maintain the office tests schedule.
Job Description
Essential Functions
Assisting the Providers in the clinics:
- Start the patient's encounter.
- Review the reason of the office visit: routine, problems, or discharge follow-up.
- Obtain vital Signs, to include orthostatic VS when needed due to patient's symptoms.
- Review extensively and enter patient's medications carefully. This may include contacting pharmacy or family members to ensure our list is accurate.
- Review past, family, medical history and obtain records of any previous hospitalizations since the patient's last visit.
- Perform EKG, as ordered by Provider or as outlined for patient's symptoms, history of rhythm disturbance, pacemaker, etc.
- Holter or Event Monitors placed as ordered by the Provider.
- 02 Sat and Glucose monitoring when indicated.
- Maintain the flow of patients to assist in keeping the patient's wait time down to a minimum.
Prescription Refills:
- Monitor and record the requests that are transferred to the refill line throughout the day to aid the patient's request for refills.
- Each request should be reviewed in the patient's chart to ensure that the correct medication, strength and dosage are ordered either electronically or written.
- Review any concerns with the Provider.
- Assist in obtaining prior authorizations when needed.
Protime/INR Clinic:
- Maintain the scheduled patients in a timely manner.
- Perform the stick, record the result and seek instructions from the Provider when outside the normal parameters.
- Prepare instructions for the patient's instructions, if any changes.
- Schedule routine visit.
Office Test(s) Clinic - as ordered by Provider:
The following tests and/or checks are scheduled, performed and reported by the assistant to the Provider. The Provider gives instructions, and the assistant informs the patient.
- EKG
- Vital Sign Checks and/or Orthostatic Vital Sign Checks
- Holter and Event Monitors
Daily Audits (to ensure accuracy of the encounters and HS protocols):
- All Cardiac Testing.
- Nurse Practitioner Encounters
- Schedules
Notify patients of any test results as instructed by the Provider by phone or letter. Patient Assistant Program for Medications:
- Obtain required demographic and financial information.
Any tasks requested by administration or providers that does not jeopardize moral code of conduct or protocols set in place for patient or employee safety.

Qualifications
Minimum Education Required
- High school graduate or GED certificate
- Two (2) years in patient care setting
- Experience in medical front office procedures.
Required Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities
- Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to communicate effectively in an emergency situation.
- Basic typing and computer skills.
- OPTION: Eligibility to obtain certification from Medical Assistant program that awards certification and/or credentials by examination and program, clinical hours completed.
