The purpose of the position of Media Specialist is to advance the effectiveness of member and public communications at TVMA through website and media support, content development, research, and project management. This position supports the overall communications team at TVMA in implementing approved communication and public relations plans and by developing, maintaining, and managing relevant website content and online services for users of those managed by TVMA.
Media Specialist areas of responsibilty:
1. Assists in updating content on TVMA-managed websites.
2. Assists the Communications Team in creating video, digital and print graphics content, for TVMA events and productions.
3. Serves as staff liaison for the TVMA Public Relations Committee and supports the committee chairperson on all PR activities and Public Relations plan projects.
4. Assists in marketing the association and its websites and programs to members, potential members, and the public.
5. Creates and deploys TVMA social media campaigns; maintains the social media accounts for TVMA, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
6. Produces and hosts Veterinary Vitals podcast, including sourcing and interviewing guests that align with TVMA’s mission and goals, editing and publishing the episodes, and advertising via email and social media posts.
7. Manages classified ads for the Texas Veterinarian magazine.
8. Manages the advertising contracts for the digital and print publications, including recruiting advertisers, executing contracts, and ensuring accurate and timely billing, insertion, and distribution.
9. Assists with designing and coding for The Source monthly e-newsletter and member eblasts.
10. Supports the Communications Department and other departments in preparing communication plans, budget requests, departmental reports and other general administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Design or related field is required
2. Experience with social media campaigns and graphic design is required
3. Experience working at a professional association is a plus.
4. Preferred experience in online content development, video clip production, and/or making podcasts.
5. Experience to be supported by a providing a portfolio of current work upon request
6. Basic knowledge and familiarity of desktop publishing software and competency in a Macintosh computer environment
7. Strong proofreading, fact-checking and research skills demonstrated by previous experience
8. Strong verbal, telephone, and written communication skills
9. Ability to deal with seasonal periods of high stress and to work against established deadlines
10. Availability to work and travel occasional evenings and weekends
11. Ability to exercise diplomacy and use sound judgment in dealing with Association members, associate vendors and suppliers, and the general public on the telephone and in person
12. Ability to work within established performance standards, to establish program outcomes and planning objectives and to work toward these goals with minimal day-to-day supervision

Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
