What You'll Do:
The Mechanical / I.D. Intern works independently as well as collaboratively with our design engineering team to develop novel and innovative concepts through insights, problem solving, visualization, 3D modeling, prototyping and testing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Creatively solves form, interface, and mechanical problems
- Visualizes ideas and concepts, conducts usability testing, evaluation, and documentation
- Develops sketches, renderings, storyboards, etc.
- Models parts and assemblies in CREO, renders in Keyshot, and creates 2D Drawings
- Works independently and collaboratively with co-workers/interdisciplinary teams
- Builds prototypes and models with additive machines and bench-top modeling
- Follows design workflow; perceive-visualize-prototype-test-evaluate-repeat
- Will perform additional responsibilities when required
Requirements
What You'll Bring:
- Currently pursuing advanced degree in Industrial Design (BID), product design, mechanical engineering (BSME), or related field
- Curious, positive, enthusiastic, independent thinker, who takes initiative
- Problem solver, who communicates well, listens and learns quickly
- Works well independently and in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal + written + visualized)
- Top notch visualization skills; sketching, rendering, visualization, presentations, etc.
- Technical aptitude; knowledgeable about technology, electro mechanical mechanisms., part and assembly design, DFMA, etc.
- 3D CAD proficiency
- Attention to detail
- Maintains confidentiality of proprietary information
- Ability to maintain a professional atmosphere in a fast-paced environment with numerous interactions and interruptions
- A high degree of initiative, self-motivation, and ability to motivate others
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with Team Members and colleagues
- Comfortable with office pets (cats, dogs)
Not Required but Nice to Have!
- Exceptional skills; CREO, Keyshot, sketching, visualization, Human Centered Design
- Previous experience in related fields: design, engineering, UI/UX, human factors, usability testing, etc.
- Experience working or living with cats
- Curiosity for exploring emerging technologies and materials
- Product/concept animation
- Interest in sustainability and environmentally conscious design practices
